I've been searching for a trustworthy and well-reviewed bike lock at a reasonable price. This range gets good reviews and this version seems to be one of the best D locks on the market to deter opportunists (nothing appears to be unbreakable) due to strength, weight and size.

Looks like a previous model, but carries a Gold Sold Secure rating and 10/10 in the range. The newer version has minimal updates and £30 more.

Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit Mini Bike Lock Extra Info:

I've got a Kryptonite lock.

Mine was bought over a decade ago but i left it out in all weather and forgot about it and the keyhole eventually rusted. That was last year.
They come with a lifetime warranty so even though i have no proof of purchase, when i found it i contacted them about the keyhole and they sent me the latest version for free.

Excellent customer service.
The lighter the bike the more it costs so the better the lock so the heavier it is - vicious circle!
But will this hurt superman ?

You asked for it. Originally black, silvery grey and yellow it's now any colour of nail varnish my wife didn't want (one looks like gentlemen secretions...) plus a few sparkly ones I found in a bargain bin.

Thanks for the link. Just proves nothing is unbreakable, but it still took more than a set of bolt cutters and an opportunist.

An 18v angle grinder might be faster
It's a deterrent for most but if you have a nice bike unfortunately nothing will stop professional thieves taking your bike. When I was a kid we were cycling in the park in Solihull then went to the main shopping centre and we all parked our bikes right in the main square to pop to the local newsagent to get a drink.

As we were walking back to our bikes we joked Edwards bike had gone as couldn't see it from distance but as we got closer we realised it had gone in the 5 minutes we had popped into local newsagent. My friend had a lock on the saddle, a lock on his quick release wheel and kryptonite lock on main bike which I think at the time had £250 guarantee on his Trek 850 (lovely bike at the time!) The police said we were most likely followed by professional thieves and stole bike in broad day light in Mell Square shopping centre while we popped into the newsagent

One idea is to not have a nice bike or since that would be unpleasant to ride, make a nice bike look bad. I've painted mine badly using all sorts of ridiculous colours and a tooth brush. Won't stop the opportunist so keep your bike locked but hopefully a pro thief knows it'll take ages to get the paint off and make my bike saleable again so won't bother cutting through the locks in the first place.

Those Onguard D locks are great value for a gold rated lock, but this is a thicker heavier lock than even their Brute model, so while it is still only gold rated it ought to be at least a little tougher to break/cut.

Did lots of research & bought onguard brute 4 years ago which is alot cheaper & can't be cut by bolt croppers..no lock is angle grinder proof..if u have quick release wheels then mini lock is usually only big enough 2 lock back wheel 2 the frame..still got my bike

If you buy one of these, or any other make of D-lock made from hardened steel, I'd recommend removing the shackle and oiling the locking bolts in the lock body thoroughly with mineral oil or similar to stop them rusting, before using it. The keyhole should be oiled with silicone or wd40.

My Krytonite Newyork 2000 wouldn't unlock after just a week or two of ownership (mind you I do leave near the sea), fortunately it was at home and I had lots of wd40 available, or I would have probably broken the key trying to get it open.
But will this hurt superman ?

That was lucky, can't believe you had the cheek to call them.. surely you neglecting doesn't warrant a replacement but I guess you have to try these things

Coming soon, for now imagine those late 80s early 90s shades of green and pink because there's a lot of that going on. Yesterday I swapped the plain black handlebars for some bright red ones which don't match anything, every little helps.

I was very upfront about it actually. I told them what had happened and they requested pictures of the keyhole and keys. I sent them the photos and my replacement was processed right away.

They weren't deceived at any point. Just excellent customer service

If it does get nicked the police report will be a bit more descriptive than "it was black and had wheels" for sure
had the kryptonite evolution series 4 in halfords in rhyl for £20 only seen one there reduced near the till on the bike section there was other brands reduced also, but were more expensive
This is a good deal for a pretty formidable lock that is just about portable if you use a belt loop or similar. As stated, no lock is going to stop a determined thief but it is going to delay them and hopefully make them target a bike with a worse lock instead!!

I'm surprised you haven't fitted some nice pink or yellow tyres on it to go with the paintwork .

I did hear that bikes with shopping baskets on the front are less likely to be stolen.

Good lock but small so your limited to what you can lock your bike too
