Nice one - but they rarely carry enough stock to even fill your tank.

It needs to be cleaned first

run a search on bio fuel on google there are whole forums on the net for answering questions on veg oil in cars. The used stuff really needs to be filtered/cleaned before use but its an easy process. if you have access to lots then get someone to deal with it supply you free and let them have some for doing the work.

Don't just put it in the car without doing A LOT of reasearch on your car first

It doesn't work well on new cars due to the fancy fuel injectors etc and older cars need to have certain pre-heaters to do the job effectively.

I can't go into great detail for 2 reasons
1. Technically I don't know enough
2. There aren't enough hours in the day.

If you acquire used veg. oil it must be filtered many times and you need the correct kit or it will ruin your car.......

I've a 1996 Citroen Xantia 1.9TD and, when the price is right, put straight, brand new, vegetable oil into the tank and it drives and performs normally with no loss of power or change in performance.
The only thing is it smells (not too badly) of a chip shop.....!

If it's new clean veg oil it will run in the majority of diesel engine made after 1992 as long as it's mixed with mineral diesel. How much to mix will depend on your car.

It's does not need cleaning or filtering as the OP is a virgin product and you cannot run it 100% without a heat exchanger system as it's too thick. I run this particular brand in a 2007 Roomster 1.9 PD at about 25-40% (Depending on weather) after it was going for £14 for 20 litres and my supply of WVO (Waste Vwg oil which if used does need to be cleaned and filtered as mentioned) had run out.

PLEASE as mentioned read up on it. Use google and specilist forums before you decide to do this, it's not always straightforward.

It's legal to use up to 2500 litres per year in your car. Nothing dodgy about that.

Supermarkets usually match thier price of oil on the price of diesel, removing any advantage of using veg oil in your car. And yes you can use up to 2500 litres of your own fuel a year duty free.

If the goverment spent the money they collect from vehicle drivers I would not even consider using cooking oil to fuel my car. Motorists are just easy targets for the Chancellor to grab cash from. Makes no difference which party is in power

Be careful if you intend putting Veg oil into your diesel tank, a rough rule is if your car is a modern TDI DONT you will need a twin tank conversion.
Veg oil will run most diesel cars but could cause real damage to your piston rings with somthing called gumming, if your car is an older one it will be more likely to run ok on it, as someone has said check the forums lots of expert advice and lists of OK cars.

You can't run a diesel on LPG like your thinking though and though LPG is cheaper per litre the MPG is less meaning you need more.

You MAY need to change your filter. Depends on what oil you use.

I have been using WVO/VO and bio for years and have used it in a variety of engines from old XUD's right up to the latest PD's and common rails, I have even used it on track days. Never had a problem with any of them and it currently saves me between £3-4 a week on running costs (This may not seem like a lot but look at it over a year......). I also know a lot of people who use it and no one has ever had "gumming" or ring damage. The only issues that have really been noticed are fuel pump failure (Lack of the right lubrication), the odd filter failure (dodgy WVO) and an injector failure (They had done 140k so it may have not been the fuel. There is also an interesting thought process on oil thinning caused by the residual fuel in the cylinders but it's not really something I can see being a problem if the service intervals are maintained

This is one of these things where you need to be prepared to take a risk. If you decide the pros outweigh the cons then go for it. If you don't then leave it alone.

B100 can run 100% with no mods. It wont run well in every car and there is the sticking point but a lot of cars will run great on it.

SVO or WVO will only require a twin tank if you running much higher concentrations or neat. It's down to the individual if they take the chance on it and most people don't because it's too much hassle. However it would be good to give people correct balanced information to help them make up their minds

We have more than enough idiots polluting the country through ignorance of the facts it would seem.

There is also nothing that connects money spent on roads to the amount paid in tax, other than it is far less spent than is paid.

There are very few cars it will work with.

All Mercedes diesels that are pre CDI but excluding some of the 200/220/250s that had a small chance of a lucas pump.

All PSA XUD engined cars with Bosch pumps.

Most pre 2000 Japanese diesels with clones of the Bosch pump.

None of these cars will have problems other than needing some petrol in the vegetable oil when the weather is cold - as vegetable oil unlike diesel dies not come in summer and winter versions - so you need to adjust for this yourself.

And how many will end up in land fill?Sorry, but the 25-30p saving per litre isn't worth the effort or the possible risk to damage to your engine. When it comes to selling or trading in your car, do you think telling the buyer that you've been running the car on veg oil won't effect the price.

Some containers I keep and use myself - but most I give to other people who run on waste vegetable oil for them to issue to places they collect from.

There is no shortage of demand for the empty containers - and some are even sold on Ebay.

Its clueless attitudes like yours that reduce green practices by seeing implementing them as a problem.

Regarding selling - why would someone who has a car that runs on vegetable oil sell it to someone who had no interest in doing the same - so accordingly selling prices tend to be higher.

Seriously THE CORRECT ENGINED cars run far better - the engines run far smoother and feel more like petrol than diesel. The current saving is about £15 a tank, but in the past it has been under half the price of diesel.

There is slightly less energy contained in vegetable oil than diesel - but the smoothness seems to let the car still have the same top speed - although with some styles of driving there is a slight drop in MPG.

Empty oil bottles/containers are used to make fleeces, and Berghaus is one of the companies using this. Asda also makes its staff fleeces from the bottles too.

It is possible to get tins - but this deal was for a "cube" and not for tins. However due to the cost of the tins they invariably cost about 50p more. Car breakers take the tins - as they can include them to increase the weight of cars being crushed or chipped. The tins are not popular as they are more difficult to to handle and the hole pours too slowly.

Seriously - ask something and i will tell you both good and bad sides of it - as there is no point in trying to convert people by lying to them.
