Thought this looked really good, then read the word "Microsoft".... suddenly gone of it :-\

Microsoft play FX only, this is a great player actually, and the 8gb is a lot more than the usuals for this price point. Ive played with one of these, its easy to use and good build quality, so i bought on off the back of this offer... cheers OP

HEATY!

for the last year its been £29 on amazon, its 28 now.

good value, maybe, hot deal? No

but thanks anyway

so this works with windows 8 pcs...then ?...just drag and drop in the windows media player etc......
Looks like that's a yes then.....after reading the specs......

This is one reason :-

"Micro SD Card slot - expand memory by up to 8GB"

So maximum 16gb compared to 40gb on the Sansa. Old card slot technology.

actually i put a 32gb card in and its working fine... its easy to use and very light, bundled headphones are decent too, im well happy with it

That's what put me off buying one too. I'd like to replace my Sansa Clip Zip, but this won''t cut it with such a limit.

It's great that it supports FLAC, but with a max of 16Gb that space will fill up very quickly and severely limit the number of albums it will hold. Shame.

Most people who have had both a Sansa & Kubik say the Sansa are better build quality
anythingbutipod.com/for…451

The Sansa is also well renowned for it's good clean sound.

It's also £16.98 for the Sansa Clip 4GB or £18.98 for the Sansa Zip 4GB, use the spare cash you'd save on this to put towards a MicroSD.

It looks good but I hate the fact that battery life is about 20 hours on a lot of players now when technology has improved beyond that. I've had a few Sony MP3 players in my time and they easily got around 50 hours, I wish more portable MP3 players had the same stamina. NWZ was a good series as was the 'Bean'.

Heat added though for the rest of the specs.

I bought one of these last year after having purchased a sansa which died within 2 weeks of using it (a quick look on amazons reviews showed I wasn't the only one that had happened to so I decided against getting a replacement)
I couldn't afford an expensive one at the time and this seemed like the next best alternative to the sansa

In terms of build quality - its really plasticky, but it is decently built. the menu system wasn't as nice as the sansa either however it has lasted me a full year of constant use and the battery lasts as advertised and still does. That's worth far more to me than feeling less plastic or a nicer menu system.

for the money its well worth it I think. 16gb (when you add the 8gb micro sd) is still a hellova lot of music to store - it might not cover you're entire catalog but its surely going to cover a chunk of it! as for the guy saying about the sony mp3 players getting 50 hours playback - I don't think those models cost £30 like this one does.

great mp3 player for those on a budget. don't expect a gold bar with the latest software, but do expect a reliable wee unit that plays music!

Phil, out of curiosity, have you got more than 8gb of data on your memory stick yet ? I've searched and found no mention of it taking more than a 8gb stick as the spec says. Have you tried AVI's ? - just wondered what the picture quality it like.

Tried AVI's but cant get them to work, have now got 15 gb data on my 32 gb and its working ok on MP3 and photos

Thanks Phil. I would persevere with the AVI,s. I find they come in a lot of flavours. I'm sure some technical boffin on this site can explain.

Could anybody tell me where you can get a Sansa Clip 4GB for £16.98. I bought two when they were regularly going for £19.99 on ebay, ages ago, but I have never seen them below this price.

Googled and found this in the comments on Youtube

Taking a closer look at the sample videos, I see the frame size is 160px x 128px and frame rate 15 fps. There are probably a number of free tools available to convert an existing .avi file to this format. Or convert from another format altogether. (Puts on deerstalker) . . . better go off hunting then. Do you have a piece of software you'd recommend?

Hammy1m

I have just had a quick look on google and AVS video converter looks like it will do the job. You can convert the file format and you can set the frame rate and frame size.

Not brand new, but never mind, will be buying for someone else anyway. I am very happy with the ones I previously bought. Even though SD cards really dropped in price at one point, these things, brand new never did at all.
Thanks.

Heat added & order placed, thanks.

Sick to death of the dreadful itunes software so have given up on using my iphone as an MP3 player, hopefully this will be more straight forward (drag and drop in file explorer for the win!)

The Sandisk Zip Clip is a brilliant concept. I love the minute size and expandability and the sound quality is pretty good, maybe a tad tinny but still very good. Its incredibly convenient, probably the best Mp3 player I've had after yrs of using ipods BUT it has issues.

What I dislike is that the battery is the most annoying piece of crap ever. I have charged it for hrs sometimes via usb and then the thing goes dead. I think that whenever I charge it via a mains charger it behaves and I get a few hrs but nothing spectacular and if you leave it a couple of days unused then the battery seems to completely drain. My old ipod shuffle would work for weeks after a charge.

Also there are a few annoying bugs in the software, sometimes it refuses to power up until you take out the SD and reset. Sometimes it refuses to play some audio files which should be compatible and you get bursts of high frequency data noise that can easily kill sensitive speakers or your ears if not careful.

If they ironed out those issues it would be incredible but as it stands, some days I want to stamp on it, other days I love it.
