The drive on it's own is £58.23 on ebuyer.

I ordered this on Saturday and it has just been shipped. I didn't want to post this deal earlier because play often just cancel orders if it misprices something but this one has gone through. It says available in 4-5 days now but it is definately worth a punt because it costs less than the 320GB USB 2 version.

This is a 7200RPM USB 3.0 hard drive where most USB drives are 5400RPM. USB 3 is new technology that gives you faster transfer speeds and shorter seek times but is also backwards compatible with USB 2. You will need USB 3 ports on your computer to take full advantage although buffalo do an expresscard adapter for about £25. This drive is also rugged. The ruggedness is the reason I looked into these LaCies in in the first place. I killed a WD passport when it fell off my desk while in use. The RRP on this is £130ish and they usually sell for over £100.

PS. I know it is a bit ugly.

This got cold quickly. Here is the link for CCL computer anyway. I changed the title to say 2.5" just in case people thought it was a desktop drive.

OK, OK. This one is dead in the water. What I should have done is post the CCL computers deal. What I meant by that comment is that play have good deals on stuff which is end of line but this is a new product so they are very likely to get new stock in.

I voted hot - you are getting more than the usual crappy 5400rpm drive & USB3.0 will be a bonus if you have this connection now or soon - P.S. its not as ugly as the Michael Jackson gold Samsung drive

Seems like a decent price for rugged USB3. What sort of real world performance benefit will USB3 give over USB2? Cheers.

If you have real USB 3.0 ports then the reviews I have read say 80MB/s to over 100MB/s. That is about 3 times faster than USB 2.0 devices will do. It is rare with my dell M1330 to get over 20MB/s with my buffalo USB 2.0 drive, though. Lacie says in their own spec that it will do 110MB/s. If you get an expresscard adapter then I think that that will be the bottle neck and not the drive.

The HDD that is used in this case is this one
