With Gigabit Ethernet for file sharing and USB 2.0 for personal storage, the Ethernet Disk mini works with or without a network. Use it as a simple, cost-effective data server with your office or home network. Accessible on every wired or wireless network, sharing files among Windows, Mac and Linux users becomes very easy. The user-friendly Wizard Install and web page administration make network set-up and configuration accessible for anyone. With the additional USB expansion port, the available capacity on your network can be expanded or you can share your photos stored on your camera. The LaCie Ethernet Disk mini can also act as your home multimedia server - ideal for streaming digital media files on your TV via your UPnPTM AV-compatible digital media player (DMA).

Will this run squeezeserver to use with my my squeezebox?

yes, will run that no porblem, i had one the other week and use mine for this

Thanks for the info, picked one up for Squeezeserver etc. Can anyone advise me of a program that will subscribe and download podcasts to this?

Cheers,

Let me get this right - this works as per a normal server.
ie; I don't need my desktop on to access files on there from my laptop?
If so, this could be a better option for me than splashing out on a 'proper' server for the time being as I'm short on cash.

Does it run on mains, or will it work direct through my router

Have/had this drive. Was happy with it while it worked, but then the external power supply failed on it so had to get that replaced and more recently the system board did, but LaCie would not allow me to open the thing to get to the HDD and secure my data (since the HDD itself was fine) without voiding their warranty. LaCie support is terrible, can take weeks to sort out the smallest issue since they only support via web 'tickets' that they only respond to as and when they feel like it. Will never buy another LaCie drive, or any 'sealed' NAS again.
