£70 for 500gb external, very nice

The technical specifications seem to not match the product, though, stating it has FireWire capability!?!

Up to 82MB/s is very fast for (just) a USB drive!

Manufacturers code on both Amazon and EBuyer is 301103EK so you're bang on the money. Well done for beating Rayman

I have the 320gig version of this and its a nice looking drive .. works well.
BUT .. the power connector to the box is abysmal .. it has become very loose and now will fall out of the drive if I so much as blow on it.
It's not as though I even disconnect it loads either.

Even though Amazon is more expensive, I trust their after-sales customer service in the event of failure more than that provided (or lack thereof) by eBuyer (according to other comments posted here at HotUKDeals).

BFN,

fp.

After sales for this drive is essential, they are very prone to overheating

i ordered this last time it was £68.13 on amazon (plus i get 5% NUS discount too)... it took 3 weeks to deliver as although it was instock when i ordered it was out of stock the day after! I don't know why it mentions firewire as there is only a usb slot on the back - i was hoping there was going to be a firewire connector asi have firewire 800 on my mac and usb2 can feel slow when its a complete hard drive backup! BUT... It is smart, quiet and easy enough to use on my mac.

Spooky! It's as if the competing sites use this one to their advantage too

Looking at this deal it seems the spec Amazon has used is from the model 301210EK, and not the 301103EK as it has described. Therefore there is NO Firewire (which the advert says on Amazon), and as Bexter has found out when the order arrived!

Is there a cheap Lacie with both USB2 and Firewire? If so, could someone post the link.

Cheers

i dont like these ones i prefer the ones with the button as they have a small fan which will prolong the life alot more

When you say the one with the button. Do you mean the USB2 ones? I have the 250G with a on/off switch on the small side where the cables go.

Note it's the second 'Add to Basket' link down on the right of the page...

is this one better than iomega one? and western digital one? all about the same price...

Haven't bought a hard drive this big before.
Will my operating system have any problem "seeing" the whole of the drive?

I'd go for WD myself, as I've found them more reliable although no doubt others will disagree with me!

Can this drive be partitioned? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

does this drive come with external power supply or is it powered by the usb port.

External power supply and yes it can be partitioned however you want.
