Have to vote cold on this one im afraid...

1TB hdd for less

hotukdeals.com/ite…sb/

This is probably a 2.5" drive, not 3.5" like the one you've linked to.

This will be bus powered.

Always makes me laugh when people vote stuff cold when they obviously dont know anything about the item in the deal. This is a 2.5 USB powered PORTABLE(pocket) drive. The 1TB is a 3.5 DESKTOP drive with seperate power supply, the size of a brick and is not portable. These are not the same. Standard price for this PORTABLE drive is £100. This is a stunning price with a voucher.

HOT!

this is very hot

This portable drive contains a Samsung Spinpoint M6 500GB 2.5" disk, which costs more to buy as a bare drive than this setup. See ]this thread to see how to extract it.

Oh dear :whistling:

These aren't much smaller than external desktop drive?
My external 3.5" is 7" x 4.5 " and is very portable.
Can get a 1TB for less.
Can't see the big advantage of getting this so have to vote cold.

You also have to lug a power pack around as well dont you ?

the 2.5" ones arnt much bigger than a fag packet

Lots smaller, and no power adaptor as it's bus powered. You get 3 of these roughly to one external drive in size / weight.

Power pack isn't that big or heavy.
2" x 1" bigger is no big deal as far as I'm concerned if I'm getting twice the hard drive space.

"You get 3 of these roughly to one external drive in size / weight"

I disagree...1.5 to one of these

I too am with you on this one.

As mentioned above you can remove the drive and slip it into your laptop or PS3 or whatever, something you obviously can't do with a 3.5" drive.

1.2kg vs 195 grams . . . makes a difference in my flight bag !!

I suppose like most things on here, it just depends on what your circumstances are.

Certainly, there will be lots of people who don't want to 'slip it into' a laptop/ps3, or indeed carry it onboard an aircraft in their flightbag. I'm sure these people, myself included, will want more storage for the money I'm afraid...

So if I go and vote the 3.5" deal cold because it's not small enough or because it requires a power pack you'd be ok with that? Not that I would mind.

No but if you vote it as it should be on classification of drives, ie 3.5 vs 2.5 or bus powered vs AC powered you might be making a difference !!

Can we PLEASE call a halt to this incessant bickering .........

If you DON'T CARE size or weight, then ignore the post and move on.

You cannot compare a mains-powered 3.5" drive to a mobile drive. Like apples and pears, they are both similar and different. It's like comparing a desktop to a laptop!

So let's compare apples with apples - this IS a good deal for someone wanteing a USB-powered drive for their laptop.- it IS NOT a good deal for someone who wants the best bang-for-bucks in external storage regardless. End.

Does a desktop drive with power supply fit in your pocket? No
Can I access my data without having an plug near by? No

No size difference! You obviously have not got either one of these devices in real life. Like comparing a ghetto blaster with an ipod.

excellent deal, HAWT!

Am a big fan of Lacie drives. Have had one of their earlier mobile drives for nearly 2 years, have been carrying back and forth daily in my backpack, and works perfectly.

Not in the market for another portable at the moment (would like a 1TB one when these become available / affordable), but this is a good deal. Voted hot.

2.5" are alot smaller and lighter than desktop hd's. They can fit in your pocket. Heres a comparison. sizeasy.com/pag…isk

I haven't touched my 3.5" external because its a pain in the ass having to use a power socket everywhere I go with it (college, friends house, home upstairs/downstairs. Whats the point in having all that data if I cant access it to begin with.

My Friend bought it for 74. Use the code 20off instead!
