Really great dram, if you love that peaty/smokey taste you’ll love this one
I'm not sure why an expression that is half the age of standard is so expensive. Is it just because it's a limited edition? Is it really better than standard 16?

Ardbeg Very Young was the same, expensive, 8 years old and not overly remarkable. Was limited bottling, and a bottle will go for a very nice sum so maybe the pricers have one eye on that - tough to know
Why so much ice for this one? It's a good deal as described by OP. Heat from me 🔥

You should watch this.

Exactly, age isn't the only thing that makes a good whisky, the price for older bottlings isn't necessarily due to better quality but because the older the cask, the longer it's been taking up space in the warehouse and has required more monitoring... this is a corker.

I wondered this. It's very expensive for a whisky of that age.

It's a very reasonable price for a whisky of this quality. Why people get hung up on the age statement I don't know. I've had plenty of 18s and 20+s that are bland or boring and 2 - 4 times the price of this. I expect most of those voting cold have never even tried it. It's a shame as they don't know what they're missing.

I think you're missing the point. Whiskies tend to go up in price the older they are. So why is an 8yr the same price as one twice the age?

It's a limited release to celebrate 200th birthday of the distillary. It won't be around for ever. The distillers edition 16 year old is £75 so this is significantly cheaper. Anyway, if you judge and price a whisky purely on its age you're going to miss out on a lot.

You're reading too much into it. I was simply questioning the price Vs the 16. I know it's a nice whisky.

The 8 year old has recently become part of the core range - scotchwhisky.com/mag…ge/

From Amazon's listing it looks as if the bottles they have are still the 2016 200th birthday ones....same whisky but a more collectible bottle to have....anyway, as you say even though it's only a small reduction this is a great price, have ordered thanks
