Each Distillers Edition expression undergoes a second (or ‘double’) maturation in casks that have previously held a fortified wine.

A really distinctive and distinguished dram, full of peat while the Pedro Ximinez sherry wood naturally has a big say; A more mellow Lagavulin, not quite as deep or intense as the 16 year old.

I reviewed this on my YouTube channel recently. It's a very nice whisky and I prefer it over the standard 16. At this price is not too bad. It's definitely not worth it at full price.
This is a great whisky, and agree with saabfan I prefer it over the standard 16. I was going to post this yesterday but when I looked back at my Amazon order I had previously got this for £54. Think I will wait to see if it goes lower in the run up to Christmas.

Please post link to your you tube channel.
Nice! This is one of my top three whiskies. At a good price (although I also have got it cheaper in the past on amazon). Heat added!

Do we know which year this one is?

Can I justify another one to add to the three bottles I already have?

There are some excellent NAS whiskies (eg Laphroaig quarter cask) but the majority are pants. I would hope Lagavulin would know better than to release some absolute barrel wash like most brands and it seems (by reviews) they have thought of a method to add character and flavour without requiring age. I would be interested to try it but I'm not someone willing to gamble £65.99 on a full bottle when I could get 2 or 3 known good whiskies instead.

It seems upon further reading that this is matured for 16 years - distilled in 2002 and bottled in 2018 - however I cannot find how long it was in oak casks and how long it was in the sherry casks.
This is an exceptional whiskey, not for those averse to peat and smoke but more subtle (not hard !) and complex than the 16 year old. Absolute class. Only surpassed in my opinion by the 37 year old which was a special Diageo release a few years ago.
I am looking to buy a bottle of whisky as a Christmas present for a good friend that is a big fan of the Lagavulin 16 years old. Will the Distillers Edition be suitable? If not, can someone please recommend something better? Thank you.

Yes, if they like Lagavulin 16 this is ideal. If you’re budget stretches also consider the 12 year cask strength. Also the 8 year 200 anniversary bottle is a great option for a gift and still available.
