Clearly they are preparing to make it a paid event in the future. The nice, random, free nature of it will be changed.

Or perhaps its because of safety reasons and to put off undesirables intent on causing trouble

No with Lambeth council its all about making money.
Safety reasons lol im 50+ and have never seen so much H&S crap bandied about never had any trouble when i was growing up why has it all changed all of a sudden ?
Yep the council have ruined what was a really nice, casual country show by going all out Trump and putting up unnecessary walls. Nothing to do with safety and more to do with stopping people bring their own food and drink in in an attempt to get them to spend more whilst they are there. Iv been going for years and have never seen more than the odd drunk person stumbling around, theres rarely ever any trouble.
What a great event to go to!

There's a 'Before I Die' tent, and a 'Prostate Cancer Awareness' tent.....

Being Lambeth, there's probably a 'Let's Fight Knife Crime' tent too!
NO BLACK BIN BAGS!

More like the police who requested the fencing. whilst I agree it is nice, family orientated event, for some, there has been a long history of violence associated with it, all be it least a small number of people (gangs/groups of youths) who attend with the intent on settling scores etc. At the end of the day if the searches, keep weapons out and decent minded people attending then I personally think its a good thing. The other thing to consider from the councils point of view, is that these events are not cheap to run. From policing, setting up, cleaning up and rectifications works to the event site... It doesn't come cheap. Given that councils, police (along with schools & NHS) are all struggling for funding you might be able to understand why they are trying to maximise revenue /maintain safety whilst keeping the event free. I am convinced that the last thing the council want to do is charge for the event.... It is more likely to be pulled due to lack of finance.

Can't believe you didn't mention guns, all worth while in my book. All aimed at keeping people alive or out of hospital.

Lambeth are in the middle of getting rid of anything that costs them money. They’ve closed many of the local libraries and local services. Fees for various services are shooting up. I agree that entry fees are probable within a year or two - once they realise that the overpriced bars aren’t going to generate the profit they wanted.
It's happening/happened across most of the country. The event is still free though!
Also, not the only free festival to be fully fenced.. Perhaps. Its a conspiracy.
