Drinks adverts told 'no sexy men' - BBC News (27 July 2005)
news.bbc.co.uk/1/h…stm

Quote:
"The makers of the sparkling perry wine Lambrini have been told to make their adverts less sexy.

Men who star in its adverts should be "balding" and "paunchy" rather than "attractive and desirable", according to the Advertising Standards Authority.

It objected to an advert that showed three women "hooking" a slim, young man in a parody of a fairground game.

"We would advise that the man in the picture should be unattractive - i.e. overweight, middle-aged, balding etc," the regulator told the firm."

I was recently staying at a very nice 5 star hotel in Bangkok and one of the offering in the minibar was a 25cl bottle of Lambrini for the equivalent of £40!!!

Are they after the Asian businessman looking for imported tastes or the UK chav looking for the taste of home?
Yuk!
Style and Lambrini in the same sentence... It's about as chavtastic as frosty jacks cider.
Good price for a 1.5L lamborghini

You are excused😁
Lambrini... brings back memories
It's ok....I paid £2.50 for that 1.5l "Christmas jumper" bottle a month ago in Asda.
One of the most popular girls names in the UK currently, particularly prominent around any Primark store
"Lambrini for £2.50 at ASDA until the 21st Century" I hate to be picky but you saying it will that price for the next 900 years??

I was implying that it has gone out of fashion, and is not something you expect to see in the 21st Century.

You don't actually live in the 12th or 13th Century you know, unless when you look outside people are wearing clothes similar to this.

Is it wrong for a man to actually like Lambrini. I like my alcohol sweet, cider, alcopops etc and quite like Lambrini prefer it to most other alcohol. The finest wines just taste like decomposing grapes to me and undrinkable but could drink this by the pint.

I hate to be extremely picky, but there are only 82 years until the next century, not 900.

Happy New Year!

There are a huge number of beverages that I see sold but wouldn't drink myself because I dislike the taste but I've come up with a theory that some people prefer different beverages to myself to explain this conundrum. Pretty much the same basic theory can be applied to many other products which I dislike but others enjoy. Really don't seem the point of consumer snobbery when it comes to products. If it came in a fancy bottle with a gold label and a £10 price tag it would still be the same actual product when you drank it.

A lot of alcohol and wine is about marketing rather than product quality. It's not to difficult to fool people with regard wine for example. Yes many can spot the cheapest wines over slightly better but then diminishing returns kick in where paying more doesn't achieve much of an improvement if at all sometimes.
