I was with them for the last year, and have to admit that their service is pretty good. I was a bit worried at first because there were a few nightmare stories around the Internet about them, but they were generally quite professional.

They are very strict about their contract length though, and if you want to cancel, you literally have the 30 day window into your final (12th) month to carry this out. Anything before, and you pay that months charge upfront, and after, your contract is rolled over and you begin a new 12 month contract.

this was reported on MSE.
i am not sure of connection charge though! could be around £100? i was going to change my phone provider from Virgin but when i rang i am offered £16.49 for line rental and anytime calls. i know it is not cheapest but i can't be bothered going through all the hassle for sack of few quids.
nice deal nevertheless. heat added..

I have a few issues with this offer:

1. Contract length according to their T&C is 18 months and not 12 months.
primusconnect.co.uk/pdf…pdf

2. There is no information on non-inclusive call charges anywhere on their web site. I called them and they simply pointed me to a web site called Planet-Talk, which is a pre-paid or code-dial service. Not clear what they actually charge when you call direct from their line without a code.

3. Does anyone know what their charges are besides the low line rental? Or are they like Virgin Media = cheap rental and extortionate call charges?

It's only a 12 month contract if you sign up via homephonechoices.co.uk - click on Home Phone, then go to Primus Saver. It's only 18 months if you go direct to the Primus site.

All the charges are clearly shown, along with FAQ.

Thanks for your reply Newbold.

Primus offer is more expensive than my present BT line:

1. Caller display £2.50 per month, makes Primus line rental instantly £10.49 per month.

2. 0845 + 0870 numbers are not included in Primus free allowance (free with BT).

3. Primus call charges abroad average to 3.9p per minute. With BT, I pay an average of 0.5p per minute.

4. Primus mobile phone charges are higher than BT.

If you are only using it for line rental is it cheaper? Will they only charge £7.99
Do they charge you for caller display automatically?
I only want it for my braodband which is with Sky as i dont have a phone plugged in.

BT charges are just as bad, though:

Changes to our call set-up fee

On 1 October 2010 the call set-up fee for non-inclusive calls from landlines and for non-inclusive Broadband Talk calls will increase from 9.9p to 10.9p a call.

I wouldn't use BT or Primus for my telephone line,

As usual there's always lots of little charges with the cheap ones that bring the price up. Also calls are rounded up to the nearest minute (not sure if this is standard practice).

izcat: if you only want it for your broadband then this looks like the best deal as it's the cheapest line rental.

Existing Primus Saver customers who are out of contract can renew to an 18 month contract (keeping the 3p minimum call charge) and get the first 2 months free - works out to £7.99 a month same as this deal but with a much lower minimum call charge. Just got offered this deal when I tried to switch to the £7.99 deal today. I make very few calls on my land line (biggest bill £9.35!) so this works out really good value for me.
