They also have single sockets with two USB ports for the same price. Bought and fitted two yesterday, they look a bit cheap (i know that sounds stupid as its only a plug socket!) but they work.

I have fitted loads of these USB sockets and the MK one is definitely the best quality, worth the extra few pounds.

Tbh you're probably better off picking up an Anker (love that company name) 5 port USB charger for similar money that'll charge more devices, faster.

These are the prettier solution for sure but I think the 5 port chargers are the better option, heated!

Wickes are doing the same (masterplug) brand. http://www.wickes.co.uk/Masterplug-Slimline-13A-2-Gang-Socket-Twin-USB-White/p/143314.

2 for £18

I had these put in last month when new kitchen was being installed. Work well.

Do these have a constant draw, and I am sure they are not regulated yet, so home insurance would become void. I know when I asked my home insurance they wouldn't cover any electrical fault that came from these, and would in fact void my insurance..

Does anyone know if the USB chargers in these are always on? Do you need to flick one of the switches for them to start working or we they always on?

These won't work for long. Been through 4 now in about 5 months. They've all stopped charging within a few weeks. Very noisy as well compared to other makes. Spend a bit more and get an MK one. Had one of them for over two years. No problems and almost silent.

I wouldn't put cheap, uncertified stuff like this into my mains system - just not worth the risk. Don't know if these are better quality being from Screwfix but I'd still be very wary. Yes, the USB outlets are 'always on'.

I need to get some of these soon, what is MK? Could someone link me please?

MK ones are well over twice the price- £23 for one vs £18 for two!

Have MK had one out for 2 years? AFAIK their one only came out in the last 6 months (a socket with a built in USB plug, not a single USB socket and nothing else).

MK = Quality brand for sockets etc. Generally a bit more expensive. I think their USB double socket is the only double pole one on the market.

I would never skimp on such items MK all the way for me!

Of course they are certified, they wouldn't be allowed to sell them in the U.K unless they have passed and comply to the relevant British Standards and Equipment Safety Standards.

why is screwfix getting more expensive day by day? it used to be good shop because for most of the stuff the prices were much cheaper than anywhere else... but now their prices are slowly creeping up to B&Q standards..
Have switched to toolstation now completely for much better prices on pretty much everything.

I just compare against each other and buy best price! but to be fair to screwfix the average quality has risen in recent years, but yeah I know what you mean.

If memory serves, B&Q bought out screwfix a fair while back (1999?). The previous owners then set up toolstation.

How easy is fitting? Or should I say...am I allowed to or do I need to be a pro?

they run a standby mode when nothing is plugged in. once you connect a device they charge immediately

What? That's rubbish what insurance company?

Tesco Home Insurance, I rang them and was advised that it may void your insurance if the source of a fire is the USB sockets.

And can you advise how you know its rubbish? how many insurance companies have you spoken too that endorse these?

Don't think they run in a standby mode. The transformer makes a noise constantly whether anything is plugged in or not which suggests it is not in standby. But the switch doesn't need to be on to use the USB.

That's odd....I'm also with Tesco insurance and they told me the opposite, what they said was provided it's CE marked and fitted by an approved electrician then it was covered.

On the Screwfix prices rising, yes they are - always check Tool Station a few examples from me recently:

500g Felt nails = SF £2.99 / TS £2.32
500g 2 Part Wood Filler = SF £9.99 / TS £6.66
5L Triple action wood preservative = SF £34.99 / TS £18.99

SF tend to be better on power tools though IMHO.

These are full certified to BSS and will be safe for your home.
I wouldn't say they were tough enough for industrial use.

i brought 2 of these. afterwards noticed my local electrical shop were doing the bg ones for £9 each

anyway there ok. charges iphone quite quick. on the reviews on screw fix it says you need a massive back box. you dont wish i had seen this post first as brought a 47mm one lol

couple of things to mention when new the usb ports are super tight. after a week they seem to work ok

any big chargers that fit upwards you cant switch them on as it covers the switch

time will tell with reliability. they are handy but far too expensive. a mk socket is abouut £4 and a usb one about £25 there just far too expensive still
