As above...cheap price but still wouldn’t buy it.
Doesn’t do the name of Laphroaig any favours....for a quid more I’d but Lidl or Aldi Islay malt.
That's a great deal, not sure why the negativity.
Put a splash of this in the pan when frying onions, it really pick up the peaty flavour
Agree, not the best

Doesn't matter how good or bad the seal is: Take Laphroaig 10, empty a third of the bottle, fill that third back up with water = Laphroaig Select.

Watered down is exactly the right way to describe this whisky. If you want a cheap Islay, just buy Aldi's Glen Marnoch Islay for £17.50.

Like sucking on a Highland pete bog. (No euphemism intended)

Hey
For those who don't like Laphroaig, or who think Vesta make Curry
Really good price but it’s disgusting whisky. Tastes of TCP

Cooking whisky?
Select tastes of TCP to me. Save up for 10 year or quarter cask instead.
TCP is one of the well known characteristics of most Laphroiags. That certainly doesn't put me off the QC or the 10, the select is not very nice for other reasons in my opinion. I would be disappointed if they didn't smell medicinal
I was put off by people saying this whisky was "watered down" or "not Laphroiag", but pleasantly surprised when I tried it after having been given a bottle as a gift. It's most definitely drinkable for an Islay fan.

I like strong flavours in whisky (opened a bottle of Octomore this week...), and no the Select is not quite as fiery as the QC but it's not that far behind the 10, and I don't see either of those for under £20. I 100% would not be buying supermarket own brand whisky over this at the same price point anyway.
All about opinions and I’m one of many if you read the tons of reviews, that say how crap the Select is and how at the same price point there are budget supermarkets knocking out better Islay Malts

Then you are missing out a bargain Malt my friend.

I don't need to read reviews, I drank a bottle of it. Being in the minority doesn't really concern me, if I paid more attention to popular opinion I'd be watching Love Island and listening to Ed Sheeran...

Which one would that be? I have supermarket whisky on my shelf, and a lot more including bottles of Laphroaig QC, 10, 10 CS and Lore... I don't miss much.

I never ever recconend a Malt, far too subjective. Ahh, you may say, but you Diss a particular malt, in this case. Mainly because I believe it is appallingly, and disappointingly mis described as "Select". It isn't, and it's thin and not worthy of the name.

They could hardly call it "Laphroaig Light" now could they, though I don't dispute, that's exactly what it is. I like that they have expanded the range (at both ends) because frankly most normal people find Laphroaig completely unapproachable. Not only is it absolutely fine if not spectacular for an Islay fan, this is a great way to get into Islay whiskies.

As I said, for people who don't like Laphroaig. The Vesta Beef Curry of Islay Malts.

Your snobbery is as out of date as your references to Vesta curry.

No worries though, unlike you Laphroaig isn't stuck in the past, and they decide what goes in the bottle, not you. What a time to be alive.
I wouldn't buy it even for £5. Thats one of the worst whisky I've ever drank

Nothing to do with "snobbery". It's about taste, and misleading advertising. "Select" indicates something special. This isn't. I quite happily buy and consume blends, single Malts and supermarket brands. As I say taste is subjective. I tell my godson, who is on a learning curve, not to spend on high priced aged Malts based on age as it us no guarantee if taste or quality. Select isn't either.
I really like Select.
It’s a gentler peated malt for when I don’t fancy going full 10 year/quarter cask.
I think it’s an excellent beginner whiskey for people who aren’t accustomed to peat at a good price point.
