ddr has 200 pins too.

Hmmm
I would hold back on this deal, unbranded uncertified memory! you could have problems dependant on your machine, though you could be lucky.
I've come across many times in the past where unbranded memory has been used for upgrades resulting in such things as intermitent lock-ups, resets etc later down the line, not lots of fun when you have a lot of open work! :w00t:

trust me I'm a doctor

That is all very true, but there is a way to be check if your new memory is faulty or not.

This goes to everyone whenever you buy new RAM - download a thing called memtest x86. It'll come as a simple .iso that you can burn to disk (using something like nero, or the freeware imgburn). It's a mini operating system that runs when you put the CD in and restart your PC. It doesn't require any set up (and don't worry, it wont affect your PC at all, as soon as you take out the CD, it's completely gone from your system and windiws will still boot just fine), it just runs and scans through your memory to check it's ok. Leave it running for a few hours (ideally overnight) and check if it finds any errors. If it finds any, request a replacement as this means the memory is faulty. If not, you're good to go!

The ISO is here: memtest.org/dow…zip

It's a good idea to do this any time you install new memory on your PC/laptop, even if it's from a good brand =)
It's also a good idea to use this little program if you're experiencing random system lock ups, crashes or unstable system behaviour.

3.0 - 3.5GB will be recognised

Hi

I have a Sony Vaio S5XP with 1GB DDR 2 PC2 5200 with 1GB slot left empty.

Done a Crucial scan and states only PC2 5200 or 4200.

Does this imply I should avoid this deal?

Kind regards:thinking:

stealth, it should work, but only at speeds of 5200

This was posted before, the memory is made by Celenade (by DaneElec). I put some in a low-end Dell laptop and it worked perfectly.

anyone know if they should work or not on a DELL XPS M1330?

thanks

Thanks Kushan. Is it worth getting unbranded memory if it passes the above test? Is it more likely to go bad in the future than branded memory?

Thank you very much Big Up!

From my experience, if the memory is going to be defective at all, it will be defective as soon as you plug it in the machine.
Really, the only times they're likely to go bad after that is if you're fiddling around inside your machine again (and give it a static shock or something) or if you overclock your system too far. No moving parts means they're very unlikely to break otherwise =)

Hi there Rock,

what time did you order cause I've not heard anything about no stock.

I ordered about 11ish. Hope they come thru as this is a good price.

ordered 11.04 am this morning, stock still says plenty, very odd, my order status says back order as well

This should work in most DDR2 supported laptops, however, you won't get the full benefit unless you're running a 64 bit operating system. Even Vista Home Premium and Ultimate in 32Bit flavours will only show up to a max of 3.5GB due to limitations of 32bit.

For 4GB+ memory, you need a 64 bit operating system, basically - so you could always upgrade your OS at the same time...

I currently have 6GB in my Vista 64 machine

I might get 2 for my Vostro 1500. I read the OS will use 3.5GB, which is sweeeeeet

That is correct. If you upgrade to a 64bit version of the OS, it'll read all 4Gb, though.
(If you bought Vista at retail, you can get a free upgrade to Vista x64, all you have to pay is the postage of about $4).

:-D

Thanks for the post..

Ordered one..

Cheers

Aj

Seems like they're out of stock, I can only see the 667Mhz 2Gb modules now.

Oh well, if you're not fast.....

sorry to ask stupid questions...

i currently have 1024MB (2*512) of DDR2 533/667 MHz memory in my Acer laptop. If I bought 2 of these would I be getting 4gb of RAM and would it be compatible? Does any replacement RAM have to be 533/667 MHz or will this one work ok?

Thanks in advance!

It SHOULD work. Even if the replacement RAM is rated faster, it'll just run at the speed your motherboard can handle.
As for the 4gb, you'll get 3.5. The reason for this is relatively complicated, it's due to the operating system only being able to "see" that amount, but don't worry as it's perfectly normal and 3.5Gb is still way more than enough.
In fact, I'd just buy one and stick to 2.5Gb, that should be enough for most people, especially considering it's a laptop.

I was told they were out of stock but getting restocked...

then email saying out of stock and NEVER getting anymore...

boo

same here

mugs have put the price up to £25.99
