Cheap as chips this one, lowest price I have seen for a Sony drive.

* 4 x DVD dual layer read and write
* 4 x DVD-DW read and write
* 24 x CD/CD-RW read and write
* Suitable for most notebooks

Nice price. Only caution is that the bezel may not match/fit. The drive itself will no problem but the bezel fittings vary between models so if your bezel doesn't fit you will have the Sony bezel showing.

4 bezels in the one post :lol: ^^^

Good spot Mikey

Well with Admins 3 spare bezels and emma's one too we must now have enough to go round, you may have to prise off your old bezel to fit to the sony to make it look right, but as long as its for your own use and not to enable a sale on the laptop it wont need to be perfect, just working ;-)

Hmm... This just made me look at my bezel Which I have never looked so closely at lol

Nice price but do prefer the NEC drive.

NEC AD-5540A 8x DVD Writer with 4x DL Writing £37.99 plus postage.

ROMs with up to an amazing 24x speed.

The AD-5540A will impress you just as thoroughly when writing, due to its excellent values in all formats. It writes to DVD-Rs, DVD +Rs and DVD +RWs at 8x speed *or DVD-RWs at 6x speed. And it handles DVD-R DL/DVD +R9 format disks just as comfortably (4x) as CDs in -R/-RW formats (24x).

The Active OPC function constantly monitors the sensitivity of the media and adjusts the laser strength to achieve the best possible results. It does this by analysing the reflection from the media's surface.

How easy is it to change the bezels on such drives?

Right, I've got a Sony Vaio K115B.

The end plastic cover is larger than on this.

My questions are, is this likely to fit my laptop, to replace the current DVD ROM/CD re-writer and will it be easy to remove the end cover from my drive and put it on the replacement drive?

1. The drive itself will fit yes.
2. It is easy to remove the bezel (it's just some clips and maybe two little screws.
3. That's the rub. The bezel snaps on with little clips and such and these tend to vary quite a bit unfortunately. In the past what I've done is break off the clips from my bezel and just glue it straight on to the drive which works fine but not necessarily recommended The other problem that can occur is that the location of the eject button on the bezel can vary also.
