so how do you charge the batteries, do you have to take the whole unit off …so how do you charge the batteries, do you have to take the whole unit off the wall each time?I know its solar charging but I very much doubt that will be effective in the winter.

These days I can't tell the difference between winter and (so-called) summer.

If you mean this one on Amazon (amazon.co.uk/Ist…_30?ie=UTF8&qid=1523006695&sr=8-30&keywords=led+motion+outdoor) it's £19.99 - and (for non Prime customers) doesn't include delivery.

Remove couple of screws on rear panel to expose the two 18650 batteries. Batteries should have a useful lifetime of around 18-24months before requiring replacement. Overnight battery life will depend on the fuction setting and access to light during the day: "motion-only" mode would likely not significantly deplete the batteries overnight, but the other two modes that provide a permanent dim function may deplete the batteries towards dawn.
The Amazon one is the newer version and better.

For starters, the 7dayshop jobby has the mode switch on the back, so once you've screwed in the unit and want to change the mode, effectively you're well screwed.

Go for the amazon one, newer and more importantly, the mode button is on the front, just under the sensor.
You can get similar 90 led ones for lesser on eBay! Not voting either way. Thanks for posting to make people aware of these cheap power saving safety devices for people's property.

Crooks can change the settings as well though! This might go on an accessible fence, worth considering if it's better to have settings which aren't accessible to crooks!

The other ones I have, I haven't needed to change settings on more than a year. Although the settings are accessible on the ones I have.

Any idea what these are like for lighting up an area? It says 1188 Lumens which seems pretty good but other solar lights are very dull.
