Are carving pumpkins different from cooking pumpkins? Is there any reason I couldn't buy this and make some delicious pumpkin soup?

What is the differences between carving Pumpkins and other pumpkins ??
Could carving Pumpkins be consumed and taste the same with other pumpkins ??

if i buy one now will it just be mush by halloween

I normally Buy them and store them outside . Carve them on the 30th

Thanks for posting - heat added... I can't wait until I carve mine.

Can these be used for cooking? I wanted to make a pumpkin pie and pumpkin soup.

When I was a kid in the late 70s and early 80s I always wanted a pumpkin to carve like we saw on US TV shows and movies. Best we could find back then was a turnip. Kids today don’t know they are born....

To those who are asking - yes, you can cook with these pumpkins, but they're bred for size not flavour so they're not as tasty as, say, a butternut squash. That's why they tend to be used mostly in pumpkin pie, where the recipe calls for molasses and spices and other strong flavours. They're fine in a curry or a dish with a variety of more strongly flavoured ingredients.

PS unlike a butternut squash, the skin of these pumpkins is tough and not nice to eat.

I bought three last weekend, two of them went in the bin after 5 days and the third is likely to go tonight.... So yes, they probably will be mush well before Halloween.
