You can tell when you see them steaming and hot to touch. If they are like this avoid.

Yep. Ours was generating quite a bit of heat. The edges were good though and that's what grew through and spread. But it's taken a year. Lesson learned.

Unravel it and check it's not already dead. We bought some thinking it was only stained from the soil. It was as dead and has taken over a year to gradually grow back.

Occasionally get rolls of Turf for free at B&Q around this time of year.

Hypothesis:
Is the turf cheap since no one will have been buying it in recent days due to the persistent rain & obviously it's better to discount it before it goes off ?
Therefore, plan to buy turf after a period of terrible weather ?

Has anyone seen such discounts in other B&Q stores ? I might just venture out if it's that cheap.

I am pretty sure it will grow fine.

See pics above. That took a year.
Last time I bought some turf at B&Q some of it died even though I watered the crap out of it each day! Tried to get my money back and the managers made me feel like a massive fraud. Lol. Never been back to them since as they really have become rubbish at customer service.
Bought when reduced to £1 from a £5 a roll months ago during rainy period it took off well over existing old turf and weeds
Surprised it took and weeds have not grown through impressed must have had aweed treatment in sod
4 months on no weeds in my batch just alittle clover Butt joint tight water well feed after 4 weeks

Agree. We called B&Q to complain. Was told we had to contact the store manager direct. Wasn't prepared to waste any more time as suspected they would try to lay the blame on us.

This gets posted now and again on here. Reason it's so cheap is because it's been lying for so long and the next turf delivery for the store will be tomorrow. They gradually reduce it to pennies the day before the next batch is due in. It's essentially past it's sell by date - lottery whether it'll take or not but if it doesn't then you've wasted a lot of effort, if not cash........
I bought turf from buyturfonline a few months ago. It was £3.40 per sq m for their premium turf and it was excellent. If you are going to the effort of prepping your soil and laying turf, I wouldn’t waste time on the B&Q stuff. Even when I see it in store at full price it always looks past its best

My yard is more of a rectangle shape

Brexit?
No turf at all in B&Q Milton Keynes. Must have turfed out the old stock over the weekend.

That's awesome if you need to put turf down NOW. No point buying and holding onto it as you still need to water it every couple days just for storage unless I am totally wrong?
I got some of this a month ago. So long as it doesn't smell dead and it's just yellow rather than black, it does work. Did my back garden for £6.

Must be store specific as I never had an issue with replacement.
seed is the deal.

You're totally right. One should buy turf to put down NOW, which is of course no problem for people doing turf now. September is a very good time for laying turf, particularly if there is some rain about.

Agreed. Yellow turf is fine, black is not.

As for complaints, the only time I had a problem at B&Q was years ago when trying to get a refund on one of those "up to 30,000 hours" LED light bulbs which packed in after about 4 months (~120 hours). I argued with the store assistant, then asked to see the supervisor. The supervisor insisted I contact the manufacturer. I asked for a returns address, but she could only give me a sales contact. After insisting on a proper returns address, they caved in and provided me with a replacement.
Persistence is necessary (bordering on belligerence if they are being unreasonable).
