These Le Creuset casseroles are superb, well worth the hefty price tag. I have a 29" oval one bought for £40 in a sale in the early '90's - and I felt guilty spending that much then! It is still my "go to" item in the kitchen and I love the fact you can start things on the hob and then transfer to the oven when needed. If you're new to cast iron cookware why not treat yourself.
Despite the good price, I'm finding the quality of a Berndes casserole dish to be no different from a longevity/cooking perspective to that of a Le Creuset one.
We've got both Le Creuset and cheaper branded (bit of a mix of different makes :)) cast iron cookware and to be honest, there's not a great deal of difference in day to day use. All of ours as as old as the hills (haven't bought any for years) and they're regularly used, on gas and in the oven, without any issue.

Would I spend out on Le Creuset now? Not sure I would if there was a decent quality cheaper alternative.
has this gone back up in price? showing £219 now
been designed on offer was the way to go me and hasn't looked back.
I bought an oval one never used it but can't sell it. Going to have to brave eBay I think!

Yeah seems to have gone back up now, glad I got one tbh despite what people say about Le Creuset being overpriced and cheaper alternatives available. The way I see it you buy one once, this is cast in France, has a lifetime warranty and is the real deal! I wouldn't of been happy with any of the alternatives and even at £140 yeah it's crazy overpriced but then so are Apple products and many cars etc, it's just a shame people consider those overpriced products acceptable and products that will last a life time and cook you real and wholesome food unacceptable... Such is life...
