American companies used to be big on this 20 years ago. Think today Agile would look better on your CV as I've never seen any job advert in recent times mentioning this certainly from an IT environment.

Agree. We have all gone Agile at my workplace (IT dept)

This is all very academic.. I had to read some of this drivel in university.

watching Fawlty towers is probably more useful in understanding the true cause of quality issues but then again " I know nothing!" (edited)

It's a good way to make money. Invent a system of productivity management then charge people to take exams and course material on 3 day cram sessions.

The criticism of the six sigma techniques are detailed in this wiki

Like all self help business strategies you get part of the way through and realise what they are selling is common sense... "before you start a project, have a plan!"... "need to get more out of a direct report? Have a conversation with them about their goals!"

They are good as a reminder not to be foolish but really they are just the things you would come up with if you actually care about your job. I am however, always surprised by the number of people who don't apply common sense at work.

So you have a Sigma Stigma!?

I completed my "black belt" in lockdown . The whole 6sigma thing is essentially a statistical analysis of process management based largely on standard deviations and outcome prediction, combine with some genuinely interesting Japanese process management tools. If you did A-Level maths, its basically Stats in a factory environment. If you don't come from a mathematical background stop here and now.

Was it worthwhile, yes - but only while the company paid!
