I don't think I need this, I haven't left my room for about 7 years. However if I do decide to do some aggressive gardening this summer I would be silly not to have a leatherman LT550 Rebar Multi-Tool wouldn't I

Wow! You haven't left your room for about 7 years - that is truly remarkable! This Leatherman is not primarily a gardening tool - it is a multi tool and particularly handy if you do venture outside.

Well, I was stretching the truth a bit
Nice little gadgets if you need them. B..*edited out naughty word* to sell on once you don't....can't be listed on ebay and am too much of a wuss to try neighbourhood incase a nutter buys it and chops my leg off for kicks. But it's a good gizmo for some!

My husband carries one most of the time for work. Pretty sure if you can prove it is necessary for your work then it's fine, this probably applies to a leisure activity as well. Just hope no one is foolish enough to try carrying it in hand luggage at an airport!

I believe this is the case also. Mate used to be very clued up on infringements on rights and like llareggubsaid, if you can prove/conjure up a believable story as to why youre carrying one they can't do a thing.

Not entirely true.

They *can* do a thing. Even if it is non locking, even if it is plastic. Anything they think you will use as an offensive weapon they can confiscate it.

By offensive weapon in this case they would need to think you are carrying it around with the intent to cause harm.

99.9% of UK police are sensible, I've been stopped and had one on my hip. He asked me why and I said I cut a lot of things at my work and for my own saftey I need it to lock so I don't injure myself, that was good enough for him

Sounds like you had a good time there.
Hmm, the Leatherman Wave or larger Surge seem better really - one hand opening etc.

Ordered but might cancel.

Victorinox Swiss Tool + Leatherman Wave or Surge seems a good combo.

This looks more like a poor mans swiss tool as doesn't look to have the benefits of the higher end Leathermans.

No i never said that. Why would you assume that?

I agree. I own the wave and it's a fantastic bit of kit
They have a great lifetime warranty of 25 years. I bought a Wave from a carboot for £2, cleaned it and a scissor blade fell off. After googling it to see if there was any fix I found they have this warranty so sent it to them at my cost and they replaced it free of charge with free return postage too. Beware of fakes though they will know if you send one in.

You said it reminded you of the club.
I’ve had mine for about 18 years and it’s still going strong
A friend found one of these slightly rusty on the ground a few years ago. Left it in a WD40 bath overnight and it was like new again the next day. Didn't realise it was worth £50+ until I said. Lucky devil.
I've got one of these and it's great.
I’ve tried a few multi tool brands and Leatherman has been my favourite. Currently have a Titanium Charge and it is great. Drew the line at getting the plus with Damascus blade
Thanks

You'll have to explain the eBay bit. There are plenty on there. Selling for good money too.
Great bit of kit; had mine for the last few years with my name and postcode lazer engraved on it (an option at the time) - used frequently and much better than the Gerber alternative I have. Heat added!
Victorinox Swiss Tool Spirit > all other multitools.

There's not a Leatherman been made that can touch it (and Leatherman are decent quality)....and just forget about Gerber.

They ain't cheap mind.

100% agreed. Had one for 4 years. Always nearby as it's so handy. Quality steel imho

A while back there was a rule saying they couldn't be sold on there. Dunno if anything changed but it wasn't allowed a year or so ago...

I am surprised. Would like to fondle both but thought this would be better than victorinox. Watched some model of leatherman getting made on TV and damn, seemed very strong.

Really? Amazon reviews suggest the same - that the finish of the Victorinox is better.

Victorinox are renowned for their quality.

In terms of hard specs and marketing - then the high end Leathermans do seem better.

But I guess if the finish simply isn't as good that doesn't mean so much.

And a higher carbon blade is less forgiving - more likely to snap - and more likely to rust.

This Leatherman Rebar doesn't have the one hand opening and convenience of the Wave, Surge, Charge etc.
So does seem a bit pointless.

Although while you could get the Swiss Tool for around £50 a few years back on a good deal, they've shot up to £100 now and don't seem to be budging.

There were good deals on the Leatherman Wave and Victorinox Swiss Tool back in 2014 and 2015 etc, but none recently, which is a real shame.

Can anyone that has experience with them comment on Victorinox Swiss Tool X vs Swiss Tool Spirit?

Well wasn't the finish that seemed impressive. One of the major managers, if not the manager, randomly took a finished tool, stuck a pretty decent sized solid metal roll between the blades and stood on the tool to cut through the metal, then cleanly cut some paper with the same blade.
That's kind of the point, the finish of the Victorinox are meant to be better, while the Leatherman are made with a harder steel (however they are meant to more prone to snapping because of that)

Finish is more than just hand feel - reviews site the Leatherman blades scraping etc when drawn out.

So for the smoothest action, nicest feel, less chance of rust or snapping - Victorinox comes out on top it seems.

For one handed action, larger blades, features and hardness, Leatherman comes out on top generally.

But this doesn't have the one handed action.
