Left 4 Dead Game Of The Year

From Valve (the creators of Counter-Strike, Half-Life and more) comes Left 4 Dead, a co-op action horror game for the PC and Xbox 360 that casts up to four players in an epic struggle for survival against swarming zombie hordes and terrifying mutant monsters.
Set in the immediate aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, L4D's survival co-op mode lets you blast a path through the infected in four unique “movies,” guiding your survivors across the rooftops of an abandoned metropolis, through rural ghost towns and pitch-black forests in your quest to escape a devastated Ground Zero crawling with infected enemies. Each "movie" is comprised of five large maps, and can be played by one to four human players, with an emphasis on team-based strategy and objectives.
New technology dubbed "the AI Director" is used to generate a unique gameplay experience every time you play. The Director tailors the frequency and ferocity of the zombie attacks to your performance, putting you in the middle of a fast-paced, but not overwhelming, Hollywood horror movie.
Addictive single player, co-op, and multiplayer action gameplay from the makers of Counter-Strike and Half-Life
Versus Mode lets you compete four-on-four with friends, playing as a human trying to get rescued, or as a zombie boss monster that will stop at nothing to destroy them.
See how long you and your friends can hold out against the infected horde in the new Survival Mode
An advanced AI director dynamically creates intense and unique experiences every time the game is played
20 maps, 10 weapons and unlimited possibilities in four sprawling "movies"
Matchmaking, stats, rankings, and awards system drive collaborative play
Designer's Commentary allows gamers to go "behind the scenes" of the game
Powered by Source and Steam

Left 4 Dead 2

Set in the zombie apocalypse, Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) is the highly anticipated sequel to the award-winning Left 4 Dead, the #1 co-op game of 2008.
This co-operative action horror FPS takes you and your friends through the cities, swamps and cemeteries of the Deep South, from Savannah to New Orleans across five expansive campaigns.
You'll play as one of four new survivors armed with a wide and devastating array of classic and upgraded weapons. In addition to firearms, you'll also get a chance to take out some aggression on infected with a variety of carnage-creating melee weapons, from chainsaws to axes and even the deadly frying pan.
You'll be putting these weapons to the test against (or playing as in Versus) three horrific and formidable new Special Infected. You'll also encounter five new “uncommon” common infected, including the terrifying Mudmen.
Helping to take L4D's frantic, action-packed gameplay to the next level is AI Director 2.0. This improved Director has the ability to procedurally change the weather you'll fight through and the pathways you'll take, in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match your performance. L4D2 promises a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience every time the game is played, custom-fitted to your style of play.
Next generation co-op action gaming from the makers of Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress and Counter-Strike.
Over 20 new weapons & items headlined by over 10 melee weapons – axe, chainsaw, frying pan, baseball bat – allow you to get up close with the zombies
New survivors. New Story. New dialogue.
Five expansive campaigns for co-operative, Versus and Survival game modes.
An all new multiplayer mode.
Uncommon common infected. Each of the five new campaigns contains at least one new “uncommon common” zombies which are exclusive to that campaign.
AI Director 2.0: Advanced technology dubbed “The AI Director” drove L4D's unique gameplay – customizing enemy population, effects, and music, based upon the players’ performance. L4D 2 features “The AI Director 2.0” which expands the Director’s ability to customize level layout, world objects, weather, and lighting to reflect different times of day.
Stats, rankings, and awards system drives collaborative play

I wish they'd make a new L4D, this game was so awesome back in the day. …I wish they'd make a new L4D, this game was so awesome back in the day. Also, anyone know if they're making a Half-life 3?

There's "Back 4 Blood" from the same team behind left 4 dead , probably years off though

Valve are never going to make HL3, lots of reasons why but bottom line is they'll never live up to expectations and they make too much money from other endeavours. A new L4D would be great but don't count on it, Valve aren't capable of making a third game in any series (HL2... HL2 Ep2... Portal 2... TF2... L4D2...).

doubt it would ever happen but wouldn't it be amazing if they released an orange box style compilation of all the those sequels, including counter strike 3 and day of defeat 3, dota 3 and anything else they cba to make.

I played CS to a high standard and I was also keen on DoD, CS and DotA will always be separate as they are primarily competitive games. DoD is dead as far as I can see, they won't want to dilute their focus on CS as their premium competitive FPS and TF as their primary casual FPS. I do think an Orange Box 2 is a possibility but I'm struggling to come up with any idea what would be in it. TF3 is the only dead cert I can imagine appearing in it.
THE greatest game ever made (possibly).
Can't believe it's been over 10 years and still playing pretty much every day.
Agree love left for dead 1 and 2. Hearing that world war Z might be able to scratch that left4dead itch. Not bought it yet but it looks interesting.
Is there online multiplayer?
I love these games. Did L4D 2 not make L4D redundant because it included all the L4D maps remastered?
Oh nice, I've been trying to get one of my discord servers together for Versus matches instead of Campaign, so this helps a lot.

L4D has a very loyal following so you always used to get better teams together; #2 wasn’t a big enough upgrade so a lot of people didn’t bother. In the end (and probably still) it just split the community. They really should have made #2 backwards compatible with #1 (for the #maps) so that they didn’t lose the players.

Anyway amazing game - did 800 hours across the two before I got a life and my team split

Great news! Although after the disappointment that was Evolve, I will wait and see if they can match the magic of these two games.

Plenty of mods available for L4D2 too... Being an Aliens fan, the Alien mod was alot of fun, especially when you get a Horde:

Picked up the day before for a bargain (£7 ish) - refunded and rebought - cheers OP
Definitely one of my all time favourite games to play. Does anyone know if its possible to play 4 player split-screen on the same PC local co-op. I do have 4 X-Box controllers.

No splitscreen sadly. Although ive heard it might be possible using some hacks (just google it), but it sounded like a chore

Valve didn’t make the L4D games. It was Turtle Rock Studios who made them. They used Valve’s Source engine however

Published by Valve and Turtle Rock were a Valve-owned studio when both games were released. I would presume Valve own the IP rights too so it's completely up to them if we get another L4D game.

Shouldn't be split anymore. L4d currently has 700 players online. L4d2 is at 20k

Do you think L4d1 is better than 2 m8?

Do you know I was a bit drunk when I read that lol

When I stopped playing there was still 80% of players on #1 and it didn’t look like it was going to change in a hurry

Oops!

WWZ is great fun, even more so with mates. Games with randoms are easy to find too. Some say that it borrows too much from L4D (some of the special enemies are basically variations of L4D's specials), but I don't think it's that much of a negative.
It also blows L4D out of the water with the sheer number of enemies you can fight at once, up to 500.
It can get seriously frantic, especially on the higher difficulties :).
It's the first game I bought at full price in yonks and I'd definitely say it's worth it. They're releasing free DLC soon too (maps, new special etc.)
