Argos charge on order?

please justify a price that high on a game that won't have graphics better than consoles out 3 years ?

Original Poster

It's Zelda and its limited edition....

good grief Talon, fair enough the limited edition makes it too pricey for most, but you pay that for fancy editions on other platforms. a PC gamer could use your argument every day of the week against all consoles. the switch is a semi mobile platform, of course it's not going to out power other consoles in the graphics dept.

Because graphics don't make a game. I bought the order for the PS4 at £40 and the game looked fantastic, but it was crazy boring and very short. I bet breath of the wild has enough content in it to last 100 hours+ at least. This is not the standard edition of the game anyway.

Would you expect a bike to drive as fast a car?

Is this speed difference a reason to belittle it and not buy it?

Just in case my point isn't obvious...

The Switch weighs 300 grams. The Xbox One weighs 3.53 kilograms; almost 12 times heavier.

The Switch has a screen. The Xbox One does not.

The Switch has local co-op off the bat. The Xbox One does not.

The Switch measures around 7 inches wide, 10 with the controllers. The Xbox One measures 13.5 inches.

Conclusion? The Switch is vastly smaller and is a handheld. It is not a home console, does not weigh as much as a home console, is not as big as a home console, does not have the power brick of a home console, does not have a disk drive like a home console.

You know what? Maybe, just maybe, the Switch isn't a home console and so shouldn't be compared to one, just like a bike shouldn't be compared to a car.

As for your graphics point..."Please justify a price of £40 for a PS4 AAA release that has graphics inferior to a PC game 5 years old". Graphically, all console hardware is inferior and old technology in comparison to a PC, so your point is mute right off the bat.

1973.... so atleast 43 years old and somehow you evolved into a troll. Put the rod away and go back under the bridge.

pre-ordered and argos texted me the day after saying it would be available the following day

tbh I was in a joking mood. I like all types of games. sometimes it's good to pull someones leg ☺

there are too many saying your comment in a serious tone, hence the backlash. plus Nintendo gets more love on hotukdeals than anywhere else I've seen.

bad day?

Tired of numpties who know near nothing about technology or the console arguing over non-existent points. E.g. "Who'd pay £80 for a game that looks bad!?", missing the fact it's a collectors edition, launch game, looks gorgeous and many Ps4/XB1 collectors editions are just as expensive.

By any measurement, on release it's pretty much guaranteed to be the best handheld game yet released for any portable system. Still... £80 is a lot of money for one game. £50 would normally be a good price for a special edition.

I'd kind of agree with you, if not for the fact that Nintendo have always referred to the Switch as a home console (that can be played on the go). The 2.5-odd hours battery life also makes the case of it being a proper portable extremely weak. Comparisons to the XBox One and PS4 are therefore somewhat valid, especially when the thing retails for £280.

Nintendo also say this won't replace the Wii u or 3ds, which it clearly will. Nintendo haven't got a clue what they're saying or how to market an item so I wouldn't put weight on them calling a tablet a home console. the switch is smaller than the 3ds for example.

battery life can be 6 hours, the same battery life of a 3ds. is that not a handheld?. the gpu automatically over clocks itself when the power is needed, when playing demanding games battery is obviously less. I'd expect a battery prolonging case to come out, like you can get on phones.

The Switch itself is about as big as a DVD case (or an iPad Mini), so it's bigger than a 3DS. Battery life is considerably shorter than 6 hours. For graphical intensive games, like Zelda, it's around 3. From initial reports, you can't remove the battery, so there is no way to rectify (and prolong) the battery life.

EDIT: Also, I understand that you perceive the Switch to be a handheld, but Nintendo are marketing it as a home console, and their messaging will result in it being perceived as such by the market. At the same time, the GPU is only able to access additional power when in Docked mode - which again gives the impression that the Switch's strength lies in it being a home console.

Nintendo, October 2016:

Nintendo Switch is a home gaming system first and foremost

Nintendo, January 2017:

At its heart, [Switch is] a home console...

Nintendo website today:

Nintendo Switch is a brand-new kind of home gaming system...

battery life can be 6 hours

Nintendo's own official figures state that battery life will be as low as 2.5 hours.

Not to mention you can carry a USB C powerbank and charge it on the go if you wanted. Anker make a very nice USB C powerbank that will easily charge it a couple of times at least

but you can compare a games console to another games console, and people will continue to do so until the switch proves itself. the issue as far as i see it is that it is charging a premium for a gimmick it thinks people want rather than listen to its fans.

they let the wii u die with the dire first party support and the switch could suffer the same fate. don't get me wrong zelda and mario seem to be on the right track but once they are released there isn't going to be another zelda or mario for about half a decade based on past form, this console will gather dust for a lot of people i fear - just like my psvr is doing!

mute = silent / moot = irrelevant / moo = the opinion of a cow

So its a moot point. Not mute. Just saying.

since graphics are apparently you're reason for not wanting it then you probably have not played anything but super shiny games before and have no clue about the whole reason people play games. graphics are nice but I care more about the gameplay than anything else. some of the best games I've ever played have not been graphically brilliant but drew me on more than the shiniest games out there.

Doesn't look like the Amiibo route is going to be used with Switch? There surely would have been an Amiibo included in this limited edition box like the last Zelda Wii U game with Wolf Link amiibo, if there were continuing with it.

Pretty sure this is the best price in the UK at the moment for the LE...can't see why this is going cold.
