The biggest Zelda adventure yet, with an open-air style that breaks boundaries while honouring the origins of the acclaimed series. Explore a world of unprecedented size and discover more than 100 puzzle-filled shrines.

Explore the wilds of Hyrule any way you like—anytime, anywhere! - Climb up towers and mountain peaks in search of new destinations, then set your own path to get there and plunge into the wilderness. Along theway, you'll battle towering enemies, hunt wild beasts and gather ingredients for the food and elixirs you'll make to sustain you on your journey.

Be prepared and properly equipped – With an entire world waiting to be explored, you'll need a variety of outfits and gear to reach every corner. You may need to bundle up with warmer clothes or change into something better suited to the desert heat. Some clothing even has special effects that, for example, can make you faster or stealthier.

amiibo compatibility – The Wolf Link amiibo from
Twilight Princess HD, the Zelda 30th Anniversary series amiibo, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild series amiibo are all compatible with this game. Tap the Wolf Link amiibo (sold separately) to make Wolf Link appear in the game. Wolf Link will attack enemies on his own and help you find items you're searching for. Tap a Zelda 30th Anniversary series amiibo to receive helpful in-game items or even a treasure chest!

I was planning on doing that. Any easy tutorials you recommend for an emulator?
Good game to play, but the world can seem a bit empty at times. Some shrines are also monotonous. Wii U version also has bad frame drops in place at times (compared to Switch). Definitely worth a play though.

That’s interesting, as I’ve noticed a fair few areas with bad frame rate drops on the Switch too, which I was quite surprised by.

Fantastic game though. I must admit it took me a while to get into, mainly due to the world being quite empty as already mentioned, but once I started treating it more how I’d play something like The Elder Scrolls, it really won me over. Super impressive design too.

Yeah, the Switch version has frame drops too, but not as frequent as the Wii U version which hits in nearly every village you go in. It's a shame that it couldn't have been fixed. Nintendo games normally run very smoothly. It's a good Zelda game, but still prefer the original formulas that are more linear which dungeons.

Yeah I remember reading somewhere (I think from digital foundry) that the framerate drops for both versions happen in different places where Wii U is in villages, I believe the Switch happens in more "populated" areas such as woodland.

Recently, I haven't noticed any terrible framerate drops (if any) on the Switch version now, maybe that's to do with the overclocking update Nintendo put out
The Wii U emulator for PC is incredibly mature now if I hadn't bought a Switch I'd be buying this as a physical for that.

I'm sure the Switch version will get eventually fixed, but the Wii U has no support sadly. Still amazing how a big open world game runs on old tech though.

Agreed, Wii U is a dead console now (I still love mine though) but imo I felt the Wii U version was slightly better than the Switch overall (prior to the updates) and yeah I'm very impressed too although I can't wait for details on the next Zelda game assuming it is just for Switch (and therefore optimized for it) and not for Nintendo's next console as well.

No, that's for GameCube and Wii.

For Wii U you need Cemu and a fairly beefy CPU (modern i5 (6th gen up) or older i7 (4th gen up) and a above average GPU (GTX 1060 or better, AMD doesn't work as well).

£30 for a 2 year old game. You have got to be kidding me

That's entirely your opinion of course.

But what other family-friendly RPG of this style is there?
Has frame drops on both consoles (in different areas), don’t let that put you off, best open world game I have played. Wii u has some great games and is worth picking up cheap IMO

No way? If you stick with it it's an incredible experience
I played this to completion back when it came out on the Wii U and the framerate drops are abysmal. Every time I hit combat it would dip in to nearly single figures.

Hard to recommend if you're going to play on Wii U.

Play it on PC, if you've got a decent one 4K 60Hz is easy enough. There are 4K Graphics Packs available too.

But buy the game and don't pirate it to support the people who worked on it.
Can you play the actual Wii u game disc in your PC?

I completely agree with you, I'm glad someone else thinks that too.

What should I buy instead if I wanted a similar game?

I kinda agree with this but in the same way that I think Lionel Messi is overrated.

i.e. absolutely brilliant, but overrated in the sense that not the best of all time that's often touted. But certainly in the top ten though. Ditto BoTW.

I also agree to a certain extent. I think Horizon Zero Dawn should have got Game Of The Year instead. BOTW can seem very empty at times and not all the shrine puzzles are fun to play. The Divine Beasts were quite cool but hated how similar the end bosses looked. The breakable weapons were a pain in the ass too.
I’m not trolling (seriously) but isn’t that a lot of money for a game on a out of date machine ? Not saying it’s not a good price compared to other stores but seems a lot ?

Is that in TV or gamepad? I only play mine on the gamepad and wonder if it'll be better due to the lower resolution.

I've compared and exactly the same frame rates. The colours look a lot brighter/deeper on a good TV though compared to the pad, which kind of looks washed out and muddy in certain areas.

It's the last major Wii U release and both Zelda and first party Nintendo titles keep their value.
I remember when Grainger Games went bust about a year ago and Music Magpie got their stock and I grabbed this for £12. Loads of others were £7 and still been the cheapest they ever have been.

It's Nintendo tax. There are plenty of detailed YouTube videos out there about it. Worth a watch.

Accordingly.

However, Nintendo games' prices are high because they can.

I couldn't get into it either.
I don't get this game. A game like Skyrim is vastly superior and out years before this.

Honestly people who buy whatever Nintendo turns out regardless of fact it's not that good and constant rehash of prior releases on their old platforms are a big part of the problem.

This game has been consistently reviewed as being outstanding. The Wii U isn't the best way to experience the game though. The switch version is graphically a little better and frame rate is better.
