What’s the best we can get on these?
This Is the 17 inch version different to currys which i believe is the 15 inch one its the same as the one posted from costco a few days ago for 1200
Might be waiting a while, I expect them to extend this gen
I kind of doubt it tbh i think 4060 laptops will hit the market next year sometime. Should hopefully match a 3080
When such things aligned, it used to be going up one generation equalled dropping one rank. That typically only holds for the ranks above 50, as under 60 the memory bandwidth is restricted to the point performance becomes crippled. That was most evident fairly consistently around a decade ago, whereby the GTX 590 = GTX 680 = GTX 770.
In reality that was an island of stability which wasn't really present as much across the other cards, and especially due to the screwy name changes, has hardly been present since. A good example is that the 800 series were mobile only to avoid confusion with the highly successful 8000 series from only a few years prior. So, the 860 was mobile only, and the fake next gen GTX 960 had worse performance than a GTX 770.
A convenient way to see all this laid out is the GPU Hierarchy on Tom's Hardware. The Legacy GPU Hierarchy starts about halfway down the page and groups cards by performance class. So, with the inclusion of Ti/Super cards, 1600 series wedged in between 1000 and 2000, and Titan cards, the whole naming convention of Nvidia is a huge mess.
If any 4000 series card closely matches the 3080, it'll likely be a 4070 (possibly Ti), and won't be out for probably half a year.
i have been after a laptop for a while, is this legion 5 17" almost comparable to this expired deal

i have a budget of £1200-£2000 for a laptop, i dont know if i should keep holding out for a low price/better deal on legion 5s or just go with an alienware one
any help would be appreciated greatly
I have the alienware and would warn that the thermals aren't great, had to look at guides to change settings so the cpu isn't constantly hitting 90 degrees. Fans are pretty loud but that is probably expected in any gaming laptop. Another slight annoyance is the charging cable doesn't sit flushly in the laptop.
Specwise, this lenovo is a 17" vs 15" but the alienware is also qhd and has a higher refresh rate(144 vs 240 i think). Gaming wise they are going to be fairly similar but the lenovo in tests and reviews tend to be better designed in cooling and better out of the box, the alienware needs some tinkering in bios just to get similar frame rates and will run hotter.
Ideally the legion 5 pro is the best and what i was looking for originally but couldn't get, the alienware is decent but requires some tinkering, mine was from dell outlet and got it for around £1200 which makes up for its flaws.
I would recommend lenovo is likely to be better unless you can get a decent discount to make up for alienware's issues.
I thought the same. Turns out the 15inch holds a better display, “rgb” keyboard and resale value.
