demanded a refund? seriously the first r in rrp is recommended so its up to retailers what they sell items for and its then upto consumers if they want to purchase it.

Yup, this. Nobody forced you to pay above the odds in the first place.
still a good find for a retired set,
ME WANTEEE !!!!!
can some one lend me a few quid ?................
and hide it from the wife ;-)
could only get it in a few NI stores, got mine 2 weeks back at £159.99 from Smyths but would only deliver to my parents in NI, so have to wait till next hols in Ireland to pick up.
I Find it strange these are not on the Lego site at all, which is a pity because they would have dropped the price not increased it by now,
A retired set, Lego found a few of them in a Hungarian warehouse hence why they are back in limited supply. I grabbed 2
In store at Smyths Blackburn and will shortly be in store at Bury also. A lot of money for no playability and no minifigures.

Lego have sold all their stock, it's just the few remaining items left with 3rd party suppliers now. Items like this lego will never discount themselves towards the end of line, collectors sets such as this or Marvels Helicarrier will always find a buyer at full price in their stores, third party suppliers need to clear space quicker so will discount (and likely still make money)

I stand corrected, there are 2 minifigures, and yes, the are mini in size when compared with the size of the tumbler. Still a lot of money though. I think the money might be better invested in the Star Wars Slave 1 set given that there will be a Boba Fett spin off film in 2020.

Lego supply their goods to their selected retailers in the understanding that they will sell at or below RRP.

Lego CS were very unhappy about the pricing and suggested I spoke to Smyths who instantly refunded me the difference. Lego actually stated that retailers who choose to go above their pricing policies may no longer stock their products.

I can only imagine that Smyths were aware of that as they have refunded me and a number of other I know the difference.

If your happy to pay above RRP that's to you of course.

But this website is about getting deals not paying over list price for products.

I think both the Tumbler and Slave 1 will be decent investments to be honest. It will never be a UCS Millenium Falcon price, but give it a couple of years and these will be 2 or 3 times the price they are now.

my pleasure....very sneaky of Smyths to do that being the only retail outlet that had stock left...will be interesting to see how much of a grilling they get from Lego because of that
I picked mine up today. There is two left in Wigan but the boxes are slightly damaged. I'm sure its fine as I'm a pedantic over the condition of boxes for this sort of thing. But I decided to get a refund on it and went back to St. Helens to buy the last one on the shelf.

Anyway, I was wondering what exactly do I need to say in the email to Customer Services to get a £10 refund. I don't really understand the argument for the refund myself.

jouster, can you please post your exact email for the help of others.

Many thanks!

no exactness required

AS long as it has some of the below you'll be credited back...and don't take any guff about a £10 gift card either

1. Spoke to Lego Customer Services about the price increase of Tumbler which they have done due to demand and they are the only retailer with stock.
2 Lego very unhappy with their decision, will be contacting their head office in due course regarding their status as a Lego retailer.
3. Lego advised I request a refund of £10 to cancel out their price hike.

That's it, be polite, be friendly and the next correspondence you have from them maybe to refund to your card. This worked perfectly for me as I purchased online and requested a refund to my card for the online order...if you purchased in store, you may need to email them a copy of the receipt to show a real purchase...

You maybe happy with a £10 gift card but this forces you to spend your money with them...personally i like to choose who I give my hard earned money too
Nice one jouster. I'm just wondering if they'll refuse the cashback by Quidco after they refund the £10. I'll let you know how I get on.

Let's hope no one reports Hamleys to Lego CS, almost everything in that shop is 25% above RRP. Smyths will give you a refund as it's a matter of customer service. Don't think for a minute that their future status as a Lego retailer is at stake.

They may well cancel the cashback although you can argue it's on a different amount.

That's not what Lego seemed the think. These agreements are in place at the highest level.
And they've not given a refund to 1 or 2 people. I know of 10 people that have had a refund with no questions asked so far and I'm sure there are now lots more

If they didn't think it was an issue they wouldn't refund.actions speak louder than words
Well done on saving money for so many people. By taking a query seriously, this is just an example of good customer service from both Lego and Smyths.
Although a supplier setting a maximum retail price is not illegal, Lego do not do this, we only have to look at Harrods and Hamleys as two retailers who consistently sell above the Lego RRP, Littlewoods would be another.

Let me guess, you bought yours as an investment. My irony-batoscope if off the scale here.
Anyone buying these as an investment is going to have a very long wait to cash in,so many people have been hoarding these not just one or two at a time either.

My. Workmate has seven of these and he knows nothing about Lego his buddies have been hoarding them as well. Did a quick check on eBay £20.00 seller fees £15.00 for a safe p+p where's the profit I will be waiting for a few desperate sellers offloading.

Like any investment, the money you make on Lego depends to a certain extent on how long you hold on to it after the set is retired. Lego takes up so much physical space, especially UCS sets, that most people will look to sell on as quickly as they can after a set is retired. I'd have trouble storing 7 Tumblers for any length of time in my house!
I have a large loft so no problems with storage. I'm looking to hold on to mine for 3-5 years before I look at selling I reckon.

Damn I just emailed Smyths Customer Services and received a reply 10 minutes later:

"Many thanks for your email.

We are sorry to hear of this issue and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Prices of items may be subject to change at any time and without prior warning. We apologise for any disappointment caused by this.

If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind Regards,

My original email was:

"I have spoke to Lego Customer Services about the price increase of the Tumbler at Smyths Toys to £10 above Lego's RRP, which they has been in response to demand becase they are the only retailer with stock as the product has been discontinued. Lego are very unhappy with this situation and have advised me to request a refund of £10 to cancel out the price hike.

I have been a loyal customer to Smyths Toys and have spent alot of money over the years in your stores. I therefore would like to give you the opportunity to restore my confidence in the Smyths Toys brand and kindly request that I be refunded £10 to my cards for each of the four Lego Tumbler sets purchased.

I would like to thank you for your assistance with this matter."
