First Starwars £100+ set then this £174.99. who buys these sets. Think these are a rip off. We should be encouraging kids to mix and match and use what they already got to build planes , boats, cars, houses or anything that takes their imagination. Remember when I was young spending hours making all sorts of things out of lego. Shouldn't need to spend £174 to ignite our children's imagination
well, agree but these sets mostly bought and build by adults. And 100% agree on rip off.
This is actually a good deal this has been £200plus must be discontinued soon.
I see where you're coming from - sadly £100 to a kid is nothing now, when one console game costs £60 or they're expecting a £400 iPad for their birthdays...

But yes...definitely aimed at adults.... I bought my son (who's only 16 weeks!). A massive box of Lego Creator - that's just a huge range of random sized blocks in a lot of colours....ill definately be pushing for freestyle building....

Not really for children.

£100+ Star Wars sets and other sets are nothing new and have been around for many years.

This set has over 4000 pieces. Current sets of this piece count are few and far between and well over £250. The new Ghostbusters set is £279 for example.

However, this set is often a bit cheaper than this on the European Amazon sites. I got it for £125 a few years back and frequently see it available for around £150. That price for a 4000 piece set is extremely good value for Lego.
Not sure what to do. Decisions decisions
£209.99 on Lego shop so good deal even if you have the opinion that it's over priced plastic

It's not overpriced, it's an investment. The fact it holds its value and sets increase in value is why they are expensive. Plus the enjoyment to millions of people world wide building the sets makes it worth every penny.

Well said sir!
If you are considering this it's a rare chance to get a discount on this type of set. Been around for six years. Has to retire eventually. Might be clearing space in shelves as better lower priced items that will sell more often. This as said before aimed at AFOLs.

Agree. Most of "Hard to Find Items" or "Exclusive" sets never discounted by Lego. Also Shield Helicarrier LEGO 76042 £30 off on ToysRus
£159 on Amazon Spain. Will cost around €8 for delivery.
Signed up to the Flubit Elite trial as they accept Toys R Us links - got offered £165, very happy with that

The latest seal code I've seen on this set is 10S6 which tells me that production is still in full swing. The selling figures I get from my cousin's husband at the Cardiff store also suggest that this set is far from retirement. Amazon Italy often have it for cheaper and I know where I would rather buy from. While I'm at it, the VW Camper has just had its licence extended to 2021!

Yes, they are not for children - they are for greedy resellers that hope to double their money in a couple of years only to be bitterly disappointed. Not only is this set in production for a least another 3 years. it's also massively hoarded by those who will flood the market when retirement comes. Be careful, the gravy train derailed 2 years ago!
I received an email this morning saying my order had been cancelled because it was out of stock. I ordered 15mins after the OP posted the deal so I was a bit puzzled by this as it was showing there were 24 in stock.

I emailed Customer Services and they told me that I did not pass their security checks. I asked them for more information and they just said there could have been various reasons. Really annoyed by this as I spend a lot of money at Toys R Us stores not just go on Lego. Never ordered for delivery before but never had this anywhere else before.

This set is now out of stock at John Lewis and Toys R Us so they seem to be clearing their stock. This suggests to me that its close to retirement. How do you know its in production for another 3 years or that VW Camper has been extended to 2021? That is very specific information.

Someone else mentioned you can buy it from one of Amazon's European sites. But from what I can tell its being sold by marketplace sellers not Amazon themselves. Yes I'd always prefer to buy from Amazon but not sure about buying expensive Lego sets from marketplace sellers abroad.

How do you know all of that information please?
The great thing about Lego is retirement or continuity are never certain Lego will plan to produce for a certain time span and then when sales fall or soar change course accordingly.
@poisondwarf - It's because I used to work for Mattel and got to know a lot of LEGO employees through toy exhibitions. Not all LEGO employees have accurate information but, there are a couple that I get very reliable information from and the best stuff I daren't post on here or any forum as I'd soon be rumbled. The Tower Bridge & VW Camper are selling like hot cakes and LEGO would be foolish to retire these any time soon as there's no replacement on the horizon. On the other hand, the Death Star retired as it's being replaced with a similar (and much better) set which is why I didn't buy any.

Thanks for that.
Its all very cloak and dagger isnt it?
Buy it below rrp at enough discount and ul be a winner, its that simple. Even if they don't retire it, ul always be able to sell at rrp before Christmas. Look at the camels if you don't believe me.

Plus the price per brick on this is cheeeeap at 180.

Thanks for the information! Thanks for sharing!

I've been reading a lot of your posts on various threads TabbyBoy.

On most threads you seem quick to bring up investing before anyone even mentions it. You always seem to say at every opportunity that the days of Lego investment are gone and how its such a bad idea. You call Lego investors "greedy resellers" yet you comment that you have several Tower Bridge sets for investment. You also commented on the recent Tumbler thread that you have 15 of those sets for investment.

So it seems to me you are one of these so called "greedy resellers" yourself. So the only conclusion that you are trying to deter new potential Lego investors to protect the market for sets you have invested in myself. Otherwise, why would you care so much about what other people spend their money on?
