Lego Death Star £349.99 @ Smyths

Found 23rd Feb
A good deal for those that need it before the May the 4th obligatory sales of all things lego Star Wars.

Was looking for for my sons birthday and the next best price I found was over £400.

I know these always always get voted cold because people feel they are overpriced but it might be useful for someone.

There is a flaw in the design.
I'd gladly pay £34.99 for this. Do I have to be a dork to pay 300+ ??

Want it soooo bad... Don't want to spend the coin soooo bad...
thx OP
Impressive.. most impressive...
Set.
hasn't it been this price for a few weeks.
wonder if will be under £300 again soon.
Had this reserved at £289 before Christmas but never collected. I just can't seem to love this set, as much as I really want to! Smaller individual sets just seem better. For example the death star final duel is better than the representation in this set IMO
Thats a hell of a price for a Lego set ! Why is it so much ?

I wonder what the profit is in this !

That’s no moon!
That price is quite low... are we sure it's not a trap?
I've got a bad feeling about this...

I'm not sure what impresses me the most -

That the O/P is happy to spend £349 on his sons birthday present
That the O/P is happy to spend £349 on a box of lego
That the O/P's son everything else he wants, to make a Lego Death Star top of his list of things to want....

Children don’t work like that.

I know.
Got the old when it was out for £275. Hardly any changes in this version.
Look at the size of that thing!
Alternatively, if they are not worried about the lego branding... $132

There is a flaw in the design.

What is it? Does it break the set then or something that can be modified with extra bits of Lego

£350 is with grandparents and auntie/uncles money.

He is obsessed with Lego and building the Death Star is the only thing he’s talked about for over a year.

He’s not spoilt

Licensing. Lego products based on film or Tv are always a bit more as they have to factor in paying for the license to create for them. They’ll make more profit on Ninjago and their Friends line.

I guess it is fixable with additional lego bricks

It is the thermal exhaust port section that has a weakness.

If you drop a bomb or missile into the thermal exhaust port chamber, the whole construction just shatters into a million pieces. You do of course get the fun of rebuilding it though

We’re all trying to say the same thing just with different levels of crossed sarcasm. This website is so British and I love it

For £199 you could get Lego Ninjago City from Smyths, which is a much better set IMO....This set is not £150 superior, surely?! Ewok village was one of my favourite SW sets, hoping for a re-release at some point!
super

You shouldn't have to justify your purchase , i bought one for me and my son to build together he isn't spoilt i work hard to get him things i couldn't have growing up and he appreciates everything. Just because it's expensive doesn't give people the right to call your son spoilt.

Here’s a link to my stop frame video, if any one is interested in seeing the build of the old version (which isn’t too different to the new version).

It looks fantastic i am sure he will be well pleased.
My Nephews would KILL ME if I dint put that money towards their pc build.
They are 11 and 13.
£350 is 2500k/ 280x gaming rig from ebay in its own right.
This guff is a sick marketing joke.

I would go with a ryzen cpu, there should be some good sales with ryzen 2 being released imminently. A 2500k is going to struggle, even overclocked. But I suppose you could swap it for a 3770k at a later date.

Can’t believe I fell for that. Top work!

Still a great deal and I voted hot

I have been known to stand looking at this giant set in Smyths for 10mins at a time. And also that Endor Ewok forest set when it was out. My wife always says "walk away". Have managed to resist the temptation, they do look great. I like the detail on the Death Star, it is fantastic with good features from the film.
