2nd biggest Lego set ever made. Cheapest it's ever been (still pretty expensive though).
I've personally had this set for the best part of a year now and I still really like it, so at a £50 reduction it's even better.

  • Buildable microscale model of Hogwarts Castle, hut of Hagrid, Whomping Willow tree and 5 boats
  • Hogwarts Castle features the Great Hall with buildable ‘stained glass windows', house banners, benches, tables, flaming torches and moving staircases
  • Hagrid’s hut hass Aragog the spider and buildable pumpkins
  • The Whomping Willow includes the buildable blue Flying Ford Anglia car in its spinning branches
  • Accessory elements include the Sword of Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff´s cup, wands, potions, house banners, flames, a cauldron and 2 magnifying glasses.
  • Microfigure accessories include 2 chess statues and the Architect of Hogwarts statue
  • Product Piece Count: 6020 pieces
  • Assembled Dimensions: 43L x 69W x 58H cm
  • Contents: 4 minifigures, 27 micro figures
  • Batteries Not Required

Unlucky - you should have waited - hopefully John Lewis will price match after the 28 days and you can get the £50 back and then spend it on some KFC wings

I still can't decide if I like the miniscale stuff or not. The design aspect is clever. Kids want proper scale lego though.

So is this stuff smaller than regular Lego?

That's a bit rubbish.

Most of the fun with Lego, for me as a kid anyway, was making up my own stuff. I seldom bothered with the design on the box. I'm not a big fan of sets like these already as they include too many specialized bricks that you can't really use for anything else. At least the box sets when I was a kid were mostly regular bricks. And if you're now saying you can't mix this with regular Lego?

Meh.

These are more like models than Lego. Expensive models.

Normal size bricks but small mini figures (micro figures) that are a 1x1 size. Just because normal mini figures wouldn't be able to make it to scale without it being the size of a whole room.
i got the lego deathstar II a few years back and it took 2.5 days (granted part time) effort to complete: got a bit tedious if I'm honest but awesome when complete!
I wonder what the biggest set is from Lego (pieces wise)?

Such a bargain
We got the great hall, whomping willow and clock tower instead of getting the whole hogwarts set. Was £200 and it's looks pretty impressive.
Thanks for posting @melonhed we have added this thread to the Highlights section

Half price compared to the £650 millennium falcon.
melonhed is Arthur Weasley hinting at his Christmas present and I claim my £5.

People charge, £300 to lay a few bricks.

Smyths have also reduced prices on several different sets. There are so many I can't really list them all and they're mostly £5 reduction or less but there are a few decent deals there.
£145 on Ali Express for anyone even contemplating buying it for kids to play with....

Yeah the modular system is the way to go and perhaps more will be released to expand it further. As a kid, I would be cheesed off with nano figures on Hogwarts Castle.

It is only 5p a brick. I think you'd be hard pushed to buy the licensing rights, design the models, package and market the set and sell it for 5p a brick.

Are they releasing new LOTR sets, if so do you know when?

They may create new sets for the upcoming prequel series but theme relating to the original is very unlikely.
