Here's a video I've just found that shows pretty much how it works. It's just as disappointing as I imagined it would be, a shame really because I wanted to like it but they're really not selling it to me. Maybe I'm naive for thinking a kids toy could be entertaining to an adult.

Conversely, I saw this video as a 40+ year old and thought, "Awesome!"

Then again, I also have a young child and can also imagine the fun we could have with the new interactive play functions built into the Mario figure (visual expressions, etc)

Unfortunately not, It looks expensive (and it is because its Lego) but the Mario is interactive. The free set is as below. There was a better free set included if your bought full price from Lego Direct, but i think that's sold out now.

Looks rubbish but at that price of course I added it to my basket LEGO Mario had so much potential - imagine a LEGO Bowser Castle or Toadstool House - cool hey ho though should provide a bit of fun - thanks OP hope the free add on stock lasts for my delivery.

I mean like a full on Bowser Castle - imagine Hogwarts or Disney but Mario with Princess Peach hanging out of the top turret!

And how much would you be willing to pay for that?

As much as some cheap plastic moulded bricks would cost. £10.

I think its 100 quid but I wouldn't pay that. I would have paid a lot more if it was on par with the Disney castle

Hahaha. OK, now I know you're joking. Not that I don't agree that these things should cost a lot less but we know that ain't gna happen. We have Capitalism to thank for that.

Personally, the set I really want is the Voltron set. But it's almost £200 so...
This got quite hot but wonder how many of the voters placed an order. My son likes Mario and was thinking to buy this but after watching the video I think he should start liking something else. This seems well overpriced to me. I know Lego is expensive, but over £40 on sale for these few pieces is well overpriced.
People who complain about the price are forgetting about the fact this set includes a bluetooth electronic Mario figure which is worth £20 at least. Then there are also a range of larger plates and bricks and prints included.

Tbh I think £50 if actually quite fair or what your getting. So for it to be £42.50 is pretty dang good. Also the addition of a bonus polybag is brilliant. This set is actually my most hyped set of the year so far as its very unique and I'm very excited to see what its got to offer in person.

Though I will admit the small power up packs which are £8.99 each are a bit pricey for the little you get but they aren't drastically overpriced. I've already pre-ordered this and will definitely be buying the power plant slide set that will be around £30 around release time in August.
seems a total rip off

I wouldn't necessarily say that people are forgetting about the bluetooth technology, its just not exactly groundbreaking or new, in fact bluetooth has been around so long now that its probably pretty cheap. For me personally I just don't think that it looks fun or particularly interesting and I feel that with it being lego they had an opportunity to be so much more creative. Just my opinion anyway, fair play to everyone that buys it and genuinely enjoys it.
Wow I cannot believe that this has gained so much heat from a community of money savers. What a massive gouge the Mario deal is. Two of the biggest rip offs together nintendo "we hate your emulators now go die pirates" and Lego whose Lead design man looks like one of the lunatic killers from a Scandinavian crime drama... Cold £42 and change for a few bricks and a silly blinking mario figure.
For 40 quid that looks absolutely terrible

Whether the lead designer looks “like one of the lunatic killers from a Scandinavian crime drama” is certainly an unusual way to gauge how to vote on a deal, but I’m glad you have your formula on what’s a good price.

True
Hot. £7.50 off is a good deal.
My 16 year old lad is going to love this on his 17th Birthday next month, He's expecting a Gaming laptop, I can't wait to see his face (I'll get him something else as well, I'm not that mean)
