It's worth watching the video. I first thought the same but this is all about playing after build rather than the actual build itself being the objective, as like you say there aren't many pieces for the money and it encourages buying more packs.

You’re paying more for the electronic Mario. We got this on preorder with a birthday code for £40 which was a bargain. My kids (8 & 6) love it and I’ve quite enjoyed setting it up too. Waiting for the expansion packs to drop being buying any as I do feel those are slightly over priced
Argos's crazy codes included lego last year so hopefully this will be reduced further soon, still too expensive at £44
