If Lego are now supplying these to John Lewis, then expect more to appear on the Lego website within the next 24 hours (we all know that the Lego website is slow to update). Then by buying it from Lego, you will get the 60th anniversary set (for spending over £100) and the VIP points which are worth 5%.

Sorry, but paying RRP from John Lewis is not a deal. It may be the only place to buy it at RRP right at this very minute - but what's the rush? Lego have already said that it will be available throughout 2018.

Why joke?
time to befriend someone with staff discount
I’m going to have to vote hot!

Simply because of the guarantee with John Lewis. Surely this would get 2 years due to the hyperdrive
Great deal!!!

Buy it now, hide at the back of the wardrobe for 4 years (which is how long it will take to pay off the cost & interest on your credit card), and then sell on eBay for £700. Profit of £50 over 4 years - Bargain!

@RichardHardy Thanks for sharing your first deal with us. I REALLY want this but i think i'd get shot if it turned up at the door

Except, after ebay take their 10%, paypal take their percentage, and you factor in expensive delivery costs - you will make a loss! The market for this set (at that price) is very limited. It only keeps going out of stock due to the hoarders buying them. Expect to see lots of reduced ones on ebay for the next few years.
it looks nice, but i can't justify a purchase that costs me half of my monthly salary

"Sorry we have limited this item to 5 per customer. We have added 5 to your basket."

Tried to see how much stock they have and got the above message
I love Lego, but think this is over-hyped and certainly over-priced. I don't really rate it that highly as a model having seen one finished. Anyone buying it for an investment needs to think long and hard. As previously mentioned, this is going to be available for as long as people keep buying it and the market is very limited. I wouldn't be surprised to see some sold below RRP in the future as the market dries up. The only useful aspect of it being available at John Lewis is if you know someone who works there for the staff discount.

Spot on! I also agree that it is over-hyped. I'm a massive Star Wars and Lego fan, and the money is not an issue, I just don't really think it is worth it. Also, what do you do with it once you have built it? It is a real dust collector!
How can people not think it's worth it, the price per brick is pretty favorable I believe. Also most people think it's an excellent build, had lots of fun doing it
eBay will be flooded with these soon. Those that buy to make a quick profit will be stuck withthem. £649.99 is simply too much snd it'll be heavily discounted soon as Smyths, TRU and Tesco also have it in their wholesale catalogues!

How do you know it in TRU and Tesco wholesale, if you've got so much "inside info" you would have posted more then 2 deals in how many years ...
John Lewis will probably deliver it trashed making its resale value worthless. They seem to have the worst packers out there!

Also unlike the older sought after set this will be overproduced and over collected for resale like pretty much all Lego is now. I have never understood why people bother.
Preferred the old version

I preferred the old price. Okay it about 10 years ago, but it was only £350.

Have you seen how profitable lego trading can be?
Sold a Wall-E set, purchased for £35, sold for £90.
Sold a super star destroyer, purchased for £220, sold for £600.
Most sets make 10-15% profit.

Yes, its a gamble, as at a guess this set has mostly been purchased by traders/people planning on selling it later but WORSE price I have ever had from a lego set (after its gone end of life) is getting my money back. And that was on some of the not so great sets. This set looks fantastic, I have no doubt that profit will be had... Personally I have opted not to purchase lego for profit anymore, as everyone and their dog are doing it now.

You forgot to factor in ebay buyer fraud. Add that into the mix and you make a massive loss.
Hardly makes sense to big up “buy to sell for profit” on here.

Limit the competition so yours sells higher and easier. Surely no ones poo pooing it for this reason? 🤪
Anyone buying this to sell is a very brave and crazy person. I've been ripped off recently by so many fraudulent ebay buyers lying about the items they've received etc. and have lost hundreds of pounds over the last week alone. Ebay always just sides with the buyer - doesn't matter what you do or say or what evidence you show them.

I sold mine on eBay when fees were max £3 per item and mine sold for £875 and yes the buyer paid.

Wow. Is there 7558.139 pieces. Worth it.
7% topcashback at lego.com so why go to John Lewis! Unless you absolutely feel that picking up in person is worth the £36.40 (cashback pre-VAT) and then the 5% discount equivalent VIP points which are worth £32.50 off a future order!)

Summary, bad deal,
With cashback and vip points, at lego.com, the Falcon is actually £581 quid :-)

Loads of folk are buying these to stash away and hope for profit. Thing is, they will get a profit out of it, it's just how much that's in question. I've had sets that have doubled in value within 3-4yrs which I have sold on eBay with no problems. Lego is a toy though, not exactly a top performing investment, like wine or any other product bought to make profit, it pales into insignificance when compared to things like Yeezys trainers which double in value by the time you walk out the shop.

I have bought this set, but I've bought it to build it with two boys who I'm sure will love it - £650 might be a lot of money, but the boys and I will spend some great quality time building this.
It's Lego!
