I already have the non 3g version of this and it is quite good for price. I know some people don't like very but I always found them all right. If anything goes wrong you can use lenovo to sort it out. Use click and collect instead of delivery

Very have told me the discount code for £30 off with your first credit order (valid until 28th feb next year - 4QRCH) should apply to existing customers who've just opened a credit account, it's just that their system can't tell the difference between an existing customer who's previously bought stuff without credit, so you'll need to e-mail them and ask them to credit the £30 to your account.

I've got one on the way but can anyone confirm what exact model this is and whether it has an SD card, as apparently some models don't and I consider it pretty much essential, so if it doesn't I'd rather not even unpack it and just return it?

Pain in the **** finding information about this as there's also an A8-50 phone which is completely different!

I found this guide for rooting, which might be suitable depending on which model this is forums.lenovo.com/t5/…e/4

and this guide to upgrading it from the H to HV variant to enable voice calling forum.xda-developers.com/and…866

Not sure if both can be used together but rooting would be more important as far as I'm concerned.

Hmm, they've got the Yoga 8 3G for only £129 (so £99 after £30 discount) and I'm wondering if that might be better for my Mum now.

I know it has great battery life and it definitely has an SD card slot but I'm not sure if it's better or worse in any other respects. Seems to have 4.4.2 available and it can apparently be rooted forum.xda-developers.com/sho…072 but as with the A8, there's always the worry that there's different variants out in the wild and that those instructions won't work with the one Very is selling.

Another potential issue with the Yoga and maybe the A8 is lack of support for dual-band WiFi 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, which my Mum's old (and possibly bricked, hence why I'm looking for a replacement) does have. I'm just trying to avoid getting her something that's not as good as what she's used to. Although they don't have HDMI output, she's never used that on her Sero 7 Pro and probably won't ever but I guess it could be handy to be able to connect it to a TV for watching movies when on holiday.

Read some comments about the Lenovos having issues freezing/restarting after updating to KitKat though, which is more of a concern.

EDIT: Going by this comparison gadgets.ndtv.com/len…451 it seems the A8 lacks the compass/magnometer and the camera flash that the Yoga 8 has but does add the 850 2G band, although maybe that won't matter if it will always be using 3G. The Yoga 8 goes quite a bit brighter though notebookcheck.net/Len…tml

Damn, too many compromises doing my head in!

Well I've decided to keep this as it's a very good price for a 3G tablet and reviews seem to say it's quite well built.

Can anyone recommend a decent case though,as the reviews for the IVSO one say that the outside is very plasticy and feels cheap and I want to get my Mum a decent one, without magnetic clasps if they cause the tablet to shut off randomly as some reviews suggest (although others say this feature doesn't work on this tablet, in which it shouldn't matter)? amazon.co.uk/dp/…c=1
