EDIT:
Both myself and another user have found that the RAM is 12gb not 8gb.

Although showing OOS online, users are still buying this instore without a problem with some people in the comments saying that stock instore is still at old price but you get this price if you ask! Although it seems hit and miss whether you get 2 years or 3 years guarantee.

Just bought from John Lewis in BF sale. Seems like a great deal for a full HD screen and fast(ish) processor)
Shame it only has a HDD and not an SSD

My first ever deal post

Oh, I should mention, you can have any colour you like, so long as it's white!

Can anyone point me to where I can find out what SSD would be compatible with this?

Any ssd should work

is this better than the asus deal (besides being in stock)? little ignorant when it comes to amd processors

It is very similar in terms of spec but this one comes with a THREE YEAR John Lewis guarantee which they email to you straight away. The £30 extra over the ASUS makes this worth it, I think.

A12 is a higher end processor.

Is this good for HD video editing on Vegas and design work in Indesign??? Would the AMD A12 processor and the AMD Radeon R7 strong enough???

PLEASE HELP

Great 1st deal. May I suggest you add retailer to title? Not least as JL will get u some heat. Also a copy paste of the full spec will add more heat. Some on here want you to cook the meal for them!

EDIT: Also add FHD & screen size to title - all a game of attract the hot votes and dodge the cold ones. Enjoy your laptop!

APU's are generally equivalent to i3 performance basically. quad cores will help. but they're relatively new processors, so not a lot of benchmarks out there.

Ordered. Great find thank you

Hi, does anyone know how the AMD A12 performs in comparison to the i5 as listed for the Asus on the other deal?

Passmark Score
AMD A12-9700 - 4100
Intel i5-5200U - 3478
Intel i3-5005U (in the Dell i3 laptop deal) - 2905

AMD is Quad-core while the Intel CPU's are Dual Core. So in summary the AMD A12 is the better CPU

Does anyone know how easy the hard drive is to switch on this? Thinking of putting the 750GB crucial SSD into it

So I guess this not suitable HD video editing

Three times with the same question. Would this do it, yes. Well? No idea. Would an i7 do better? Yes at a significant price hike. I suggest you do some research via Google.

Heat just for not starting your first and I might add decent post with 'Please be gentle'...:D

It's £50 as the Curry deal has another £20 off code :-)

Take it easy lad - if you look at the responses nobody actually answered this question. Time of the month for you maybe?!

£20 voucher finished last night( i was dawdling on whether to buy and missed out and then it sold out when i dawdled at £299), but imo this is still a very good deal, even better since the asus sold out. Value wise this is better from specs to the retailer, the only thing better about asus was the battery and probably the build quality. Unless there's a fundamental problem with the ideapad line, i think this is one of the best laptop deals and would get more heat if amd processors were better understood, bought one this morning anyway :D.

I would say it probably is okay due to the Radeon R7 graphics

What is the processor on this, cant seem to find it on the JL website

Says in the title AMD A12. Just bought this laptop have another A8 processor laptop at home which is reasonably quick and this one had a better central processor and graphics processor. A8 works fine with flight simulator and kerbal space program.
Intel are weaker on the graphics unless you use a discrete card. Suggest SSD makes a bigger difference nowadays than the cpu especially on a laptop with slow hard drives.

Great deal, bought one. A12 seems the latest chipset launched this year and some CPU comparisons I've seen shows it fare better than i5 5x series. Specs aside, I'm sold by JL giving 3 year warranty!

The Graphics card is R7, okay... but there is R7 M270, M370, M440 & M445. I cant find out which one this has?

For example the m260 is 620 MHz, 1GB DDR5. The M370 is 900 MHz, 4 GB GDDR5... Big difference!

it's a bit misleading. It doesn't have a 'graphics card' as such. The Radeon R7 graphics are integrated into what AMD call an APU rather than CPU or GPU. Have a bit of a Google and you'll see what I mean. Basically this is somewhere between an i5 and an i7 with Intel HD integrated though it may well handle certain graphics heavy tasks better than an Intel with integrated graphics

People tend to cherry pick benchmarks. This is a better example. There was a Lenovo i3 6100u for £249.

Benchmark : cpubenchmark.net/com…623

Basically nothing in it. Also if you look at the GPU benchmarks the I3 Intel 520 tends to do a better job than the Radeon R7 on this AMD Chip.

Intel 520 :
notebookcheck.net/Int…tml

AMD R7 : (This shows Carrizo and not the new Bristol Ridge, but Bristol Ridge is not much of an improvement)

Its the built in R7 its not any of the standalone cards you mention. Its the R7 Bristol Ridge.

I better answer that question, since you seem to think it is ok to ask three times if no one answers! No (not least as I am male). If you look at my answer, I did try to answer the question (which I would not have done had anyone else, since I do not know, which is really what you should really have inferred from the lack of answer).
