cheers!
Be careful when trying to upgrade to WIN10. My C series (200) Lenovo isn't compatible, and had to get it totally wiped and reset after attempting to do so. Even now its running painfully slow.
Could I put in a hdd that already has win 10 on it? I understand that the certification for Windows 8 and upwards, is on the motherboard? Is that right?

I doubt it as there is authentication info stored on your hdd too - also your existing hdd will have drivers etc. for your current computer - might get away with it if your existing pc is a similar spec Lenovo
Thanks, yes I've been finding out about the joys of win 8 etc while waiting for a reply.
I've got a broken motherboard by the looks of it, so I'm absolutely knackered. F great.

I've see on Reddit any Windows you want for about £25.00.
I have the top of the range A740 and it is worth every penny!

These at that price are stupidly cheap, The main reason I spent so much on the A740 was because I wanted a 27" screen and i saw it on the tv show Arrow and had to have it But i had a play with this model in store and it worked just as well to be honest!

Sounds legit... NOT! - most pirate copies of Windows knocking around are riddled with spyware and Trojans that will allow hackers a back door to your PC to steal your personal data etc. If its too good to be true and all that!
Can you downgrade to win 7 through the windows's right to downgrade and can you add ssd without loosing the hdd?

It's an activation code only. You download the version of Windows you want from Microsoft main site.
Then enter code to activate.
Thanks OP nice deal!

I haven't read the readit posts but I assume this is the same as the ~£15 keys on eBay. All you actually buy is a key, you download Windows 10 direct from Microsoft themselves... Unless you mean to say Microsoft are injecting their download links with 'viruses' or that by entering one of these keys 'hackers' are able to take over your computer and steal your personal data? I call your BS!

To clarify, I have purchased these keys with direct links from MS before, and at least 2 years later they are still working (and activating when I have formatted) no problems.

The key is liable to be blocked sometime as it'll be an MSDN key, you're just lucky but when they get blocked it's very annoying and you have no comeback. If you're going to pirate a key why not just do it for free, in terms of breaking the EULA, they are all the same.

Surely an MSDN key is one of a Pro keys? It may be because of the Home editions that I have purchased but I have purchased around 5 from different sellers over the years and not a single problem. Would I care if in a few years they deactivate? No as that machine wouldn't even be in production anymore.

MSDN keys can be any format (Home, Pro, Enterprise, etc.) and there is a way of checking but it's a bit complex (it's linked to your product ID). You have been lucky then - what a lot of unscrupulous sellers do is get an MSDN (or TechNet) account, sell the keys for £25-ish, make a ton of profit and by the time someone reports them to Microsoft and they lose their account they are long gone having made far more than the legit account cost them in the first place.

Your attitude of not caring is akin to downloading a pirated copy and cracking it yourself as both contravene the EULA in the same way, so why even bother paying for it at all?

We are taking this way off topic now. I was just stating my experience. Your latter comment would be the same for those doing the same with student keys etc or those who change their motherboards left, right and centre.

Let's just stop now.
I got the kids the non-touch AMD version of this for Xmas and it's a solid piece of kit. Very plasticky but it's decent plastic. Had no issues with the Win 10 upgrade. Dunno if I'd want to go dismantling it like some of you are planning though.I can't see any screws.
Anyone had issues with their C40 from Amazon on this deal?

I have some probs trying to sort with Lenovo support now, namely:

1) Lenovo 'Error Code 1962 - No Operating System Found' - so operating system crashes / doesn't boot (tried Bios fix and new SSD, and also upgraded to Win 10 - nothing helps - read its likely a Lenovo hardware custom sata cable fault)

2) ethernet not working properly - not recognizing internet most the time (so using wireless)

3) how to swap FN and Left CTRL button (on the Lenovo wireless keyboard and mouse combo as FN in bottom left corner is extremely frustrating for touch typing user experience)

4) SOLVED: Factory warranty finishing soon but PC was only purchased from Amazon on 30th December 2015 (so i've emailed the form / uploaded in chat so this one they are updating now -
"Paulo: That's because unless the date of purchase's reported to us we have no way to know when the unit was purchased and therefore we use the date when the unit was manufactured as its base warranty date"

No, mines working fine - sounds like you got a dud one ... Try reinstalling the OS with no USB items plugged in
