Looking to get a chromebook that comes in under £200 for my 12 year olds Christmas. Is this a good deal?
Edited by: "turnbug" 22nd Nov 2019
Ticks all the boxes for me, HOT.
Initially thought it looked really good. Colour not great. My biggest issue though was the processor - I'm no expert but Mediatek? Wouldn't you want Intel or AMD (at a push?). Still, pretty good I guess for a foldable touchscreen Chromebook.

I was looking at the Lenovo S340 in PC World at the weekend, essentially looks like a better spec for the same price. Anyone with better chromebook knowledge could maybe confirm this
I like the price and the spec of the Lenovo laptops, but the quality of the keyboard always puts me off...

This is nicer in the flesh and also comes with a touchscreen display which you will find useful when using apps, finally it can also flip to be used like a tablet, so ideal for the kids on a long cat journey, the s340 screen is bigger but not everyone wants a bigger screen as it reduces it's portability. Celeron v mediatek on a chrome book I prefer the MT personally.

Pretty sure the s340 flips aswell into touch screen mode, could be wrong...

The one in Currys at this price point is neither flip or touchscreen , maybe the more expensive s340 range do.

Mediatek is more power efficient and generally runs Android apps better.
I picked up an "as new" customer return (open Argos box) last month for £144 - hotukdeals.com/dea…303 So whilst this price is good, there are better options that come up if you wait for combining an eBay voucher with a like new 'refurb'/open box item.

The machine for that price is a great upgrade for me from my Acer C720, I now have double the performance in terms of RAM and the feel or it, touchscreen, Android apps and USB C charging. I am not overly keen on the colour, it's a little heavier than my C720 (mainly due to the screen) and the keyboard has some flex. Overall really like it.

I agree. Go ARM compatible for pure Chromebook as generally much better bang per buck. Optimisations for mobile/Android and frugalness with power is why ARM rules the mobile world.

The only issue is if you plan to run Linux croutons on ChromeOS. 95% or thereabouts of Linux applications run on ARM but there are the odd ones that run only on x64 architectures. Which is a reason to avoid these apps if you can.
I have this. It's lightning fast and cracking bit of kit.

It is either, tablet or you can stand in tent mode or just use as a laptop with touchscreen. The keyboard is fine. I paid £40 more for the 64gb version.
The battery lasts about 11 hours with mixed use.

At this price is a bargain....

Any usability issues with the HD and not full HD screen? I tend prefer full HD for longevity.
No issues... For instance, Netflix! Brilliant on this screen, bearing in mind is 11.6 inch.

YouTube. No problem at all. Even the sound is pretty good.

I did look at a few before getting this.... No regrets... Beautiful Chromebook.

Also it's type C connection for the charging cable.. Fast.

Tks good to know. What about websites do they all render ok? I have found some that are better under full HD and worry this trend will grow.

I have to disagree on the sound, it's a weakness of this machine in my opinion. As posted above, this is coming from me as another happy owner. Screen is good for price point, but these bezels!!

What's the cheapest chromebook touchscreen 10.1-11.6inch 4gb/64gb on the market?

Right now, not sure. Could you consider expanding on board memory with an SD card or small USB drive? If so, or at least to compare to....

The HP G5 (16GB) comes up fairly cheaply, e.g. earlier in the month combining with an eBay voucher for £139 - hotukdeals.com/dea…517 I went for this (the Lenovo C330 32GB) over it previously due to the USB C charging, double storage and much longer ChromeOS support.

If you are not desperate and happy to wait for an eBay voucher and/or consider a customer return, I'd say wait a little longer and keep an eye on these two machines.

Never had an issue with sound on our unit! Maybe yours is faulty.... Even the headphone volume is outstanding.....

You can of course install an app like volume amplifier.. Or similar......

Brilliant kit for the money, well ours is!

No issue, just it's not the best quality sound due to the speakers used and positioning in the base of the unit. I think it's normally something mentioned in reviews. The bass is certainly weak and it can get a bit "tinny". See audio analysis here for example - notebookcheck.net/Len…tml

Don't think I'm being negative about the C330, I am really happy with it for the price I paid.

expired but sure last year Lenovo had this cheaper on Black Friday, so maybe worth waiting until then, they also have it in white which may appeal to a wider audience, the champage is a little marmite.
