Beware!
If you are looking for a quad core machine, this CPU is a dual core!

Original Poster

not many quad core laptops out there, all seem to be dual core ones.

Can anyone find a quad core i7 for £423.97?

you're right, but like most folks, I tend to fall into the trap of thinking "i7...must be quad core", but those sneaky folks at Intel have slipped a dual core into the line-up!

Yeah right £423 for dual core against £ 780 for quad core ( that most programs do not use ),
Quad would be ok if I was using it for video/picture editing, which iam not otherwise no use for a quad core processor.

Not bad but no HD screen and no SSD

Sorry but your price is wrong.

A price of £529.95 including Vat was £441.63 before VAT. Your VAT back will be £88.32 (441.63 x 20%).

You divide by 1.20 rather than take 20% off the including VAT price.

vat calculation is dividing the original price by 6 as mentioned in my vat thread here.

same calculation. one gives the pre-vat price, the other the vat. Price in title is incorrect.

OOPPPs thanks changed price.

Would be perfect if it included a dedicated graphics card but then again, it would probably be considerably more expensive. Therefore, not recommended for gaming but otherwise a good deal

Not great deal tbh go for this:

May be AMD but the slightly lower clock speed (compared with i5) is worth the quadcores. May be slightly slower, but can handles more processes in one go.

I personally use it for my DT the most, using cad software , so I needed a dedicated graphics card, this has a 2gb amd graphics card which when I researched about a year ago was a good graphics card without bringing the laptop price up £800, for the next better spec.

The next best laptop graphics card would be nvidia on a £700-800 laptop. This is assuming you want a dedicated graphics card.

This was the research I did a year ago please correct me if there is a laptop for £500-600 with a decent nvidia graphics card.

Hope my waffling helps lol.

there is one the same spec about for not much more money with either a 2gb 820m or 4gb 840m graphics card. its just finding which of the lenovo suppliers are on their list for a vat refund.

No SSD, average screen, garbage CPU, on-board graphics. Waste of time.

Typical specs snob. While I realize the deal may not be great (i.e. value for money), the specs in this are perfectly adequate for over 90% of the population. Not everyone needs a watercooled, 6-core, SLI machine. Get over yourself.

True.... looked on John Lewis and f****n hell there are so good Lenovo laptops for about £600 with a small SSD plus 1tb harddrive and good graphics which work out at around £500+ with the vat offer!!!

Wish I didn't have my hp now :(...anyone wanna buy it lol

built custom spec pc i5 4.5ghz OC quad core + 500ssd + 8gb ram + 1gb 4k 3D dedicated + 4 top games (£550) + nexus 7 2013 32gb (use my pc on it) (£75)

makes buying a laptop a waste of time for this price.

about Lenovo giving you the VAT (HMRC might have something to say about that!) .....it's simply marketing wheeze to quite a tidy discount, the £441.63 price must still include VAT (@£88.33), which means if you are VAT registered, this lappy only costs £368.03 :-)

1) no you didn't.
2) you can quote 4k but your cheap card won't handle any game at 4k.
3) Why even mention that you built a better spec PC for less. Everyone has been well aware that laptops are considerably more expensive and often generations behind in terms of performance and features for the last 20 years. As mentioned above, your PC is great but you can't take it on holiday, to the cafe, work or business travel.

Not everyone has time or wants to sit in the corner of the room lonely everyday playing games on the PC.

This is the perfect average day laptop that will last for years and reliable knowing Lenovo.

2) never claimed it would, 4k for playback of 4k films in future.

I don't see why people think this isn't a good deal?

Because they're assuming every laptop needs a dedicated graphics card because you only game on PCs. This is perfectly good deal for work and even basic games will run fine.

The Y70-50 has a QHD screen - but nearly/over twice the price - 16GB RAM/proper i7/1TB disk. JL have those listed too.
