Add XBMC and pick up a cheap MCE Reote and IR Receiver from Ebay for the ultimate Media Player/Streamer..

Hot from me.
OK Selling my Mede8er 500x2 and buying this, looks wicked, and will just get it to start up boxee or something.
Is that processor better than D525 (acer revo 3700)?

Yes from a google search this is better
I don't know anything about Media Centres but this looks great and seems a good deal so hot from me.

Could someone point me toward a beginners guide to media centres please? Thank you in advance.
Good deal, it has a 3d gpu which supports bluray 3d frame packing, ideal with playing legally backed up bluray iso's or using a portable bluray drive
Will this run windows xp or windows 7 ok and work well for streaming tv channels ?
Thanks
Can I use a harmony remote with this and just a IR receiver ? or recomend a good remote ?

Anyone want to buy a Mede8er 500X2 its on ebay... LOL
Any one know what ports are on the back of this?
Uh oh, some are saying it does not play 1080p its very choppy.
USB3
802.11n wifi
Gigabit ethernet.

That's a lot of fast connections to such a small box
I'm tempted to buy it just to see if it really does have DOS as its operating system.

Search Fleabay for "HP USB IR Receiver".Should get one for less than £10. Sadly they all ship from China so will take a few weeks unless you can find a used one somewhere.

Looking for something like this

Then add to Harmony sertup as Media Centre PC>Windows Media Centre. will work perfectly with XBMC.

They probably didn't have GPU acceleration enabled. Without it 1080p will be choppy. On Nettops like this the weak CPU is able to playback HD by offloading to the GPU (DVXA2 in windows, VDPAU in Linux)

Either that or they were trying to stream 1080p over Wi-Fi and bandwidth will be the cause of the choppiness...

I stream 1080p faultlessly to my lower spec Revo 3610 everyday of the week....

I think the choppiness may also be down to unusually high cpu usage caused by the 'green' features of the Realtek network adapter - see here:

You can always add a USB graphics card external device with an hdmi or DVI port if it doesn't.

The graphics card supports dual displays and the device has VGA and HDMI, so there's a good chance it could support two screens. No guarantees, but the Lenovo PC's we have at work come with VGA and DVI and they work with two screens no problem.

It would probably need to be a USB 3.0 graphics adapter, otherwise the CPU utilisation (of USB 2) would be too much for the lowly Atom processor.
Am I right in thinking that this system cannot process DTS through HDMI ?

To be honest, this box is too good for just that, buy something cheaper instead.
I love it how it lists DOS in the spec. As if anyone would bother with that! Might as well leave it off the spec because no one would be interested.

No it isn't. AMD's APU setup is much better for use as a media / low power machine.

EDIT: I confused my Atoms, thinking this was another ION2 model.

But will it bitstream the HD audio ? I know the one on the lenovo does. and thats a 6450
This may help people make their minds up when considering which Nettop to buy. It looks like the D2700 is a decent processor: netbooklive.com/int…25/
noob question, will this pass sound through the hdmi?

If anyone could confirm this, I would be very grateful. In the meantime, I will email ebuyer, and post their reply (if any)

Yes but im not sure if it processes HD audio or not ?
god would of got this instead of the £199 zoostorm. Oh well I suppose the zoostorm will be more upgradaeble/useful in the future.

You have access to his online purchasing habits!?
Would this be good for home office use, internet, and editing videos / making phots slideshow?

Looking to upgrade from a Samsung netbook with 1.6 ghz and 1 gb memory.

Have a monitor and separate dvd writer already. Netbooks seem to cost more than this - I guess coz of their portability? And/or brand name.

But as a standard home pc, not using as media centre, is it still a good buy?

Don't forget the bigger hard drive, superior CPU and quite possibly lower power consumption.

Video editing would be painful....

As a standard desktop for surfing/office use it would be OK though.

Superior ? Dont think so, they are both pretty much the same
