For basic web browsing, word processing, etc. this is just perfect at this price. Why spend more? To do what?

Parents laptop with w10 and same benchmark score as this is painfully slow just booting up or connecting to the internet and everything takes ages to update, although its only switched on once a week.

So what i would do is spend more around £250 and get an i3 that will perform far better compared to this.

I have one too - it's not the CPU that's the issue for browsing / word and such, it's the utterly rubbish hard drives they put in them. One I replaced with a SSD is fine now for my mum.

It's not a fast CPU for sure, but you shouldn't be seeing painfully slow boots from it once you have a decent disk in there.

For sure a SSD will improve speeds but that's more expense again,,but my I5 Laptop with a cpu score of 3900 compared to this with 1000 is in a different league,so the cpu has a great effect as well.

Just my 2p worth, but I would look for an i3 for about £250 which would have a cpu score around 3 times this

Of course ian i5 is in a different league, look at the price difference.

Also, look at CPUBoss: cpuboss.com/cpu…840
The i3 for that price will be a U series, which is not even close to being 3 times as powerful unless you're throwing very specific benchmarks at it. It's certainly not 3 times faster in day to day tasks a laptop like this will handle.

I understand what you're getting at - it's a low end CPU for sure, but you're talking about spending 40% of the product price on top of this, to get performance which isn't going to translate to browsing and Word in that way.

Theres this one,although £80 more laptopsdirect.co.uk/del…asp

cpubenchmark.net/cpu…GHz which is nearly three times as fast.

All things are relative though like buying cars, spend more get a better/faster car.

Absolutely irrelevant. Either post a deal for the same price or cheaper with better performance.
Yes it won't rip the skin of a rice pudding. However it will work and will allow people to use the Internet. It won't run Crysis and photo editing would be painful. Netflix/Amazon Prime will be fine.
PC World have at least gone sensible, finally, by tagging it social. It's for Daftbook and other such social media.
As for only £80. If that was a car you'd be going from £18,000 to £26,000 which is not viable for many. The same old argument crops up for every PC deal, oh spend a little more they say. It's only £20 here, 30 quid there. It all adds up.

The guy bigdeal66 is speed obsessed. Boy racer methinks. CPU Score means feck all in a laptop like this. Laptop users generally only need a laptop like this. Any more powerful CPU, graphics, etc. are totally irrelevant. I talk from very many years of experience. Being building and using computers for over 30 years.

I don't think you could even benchmark my BBC Master or Acorn Electron 35 years ago.

Not irrelevant at all, useful information for others to make their mind up on the pitfalls of such a slow cpu, might as well get an £100 Tab which will have the same cpu speed as this, this day and age there is no need to still make shabby laptops like this even at this price, just false economy, get a Tab instead if all you want to do is browse the internet and go on face book

Please oh wise Sage, where can I buy a 15.6" Tablet with keyboard? My eyes aren't what they used to be. The biggest tablet I know of is a 12" iPad Pro, is that the same price? I could buy a tablet and HDMI lead but the TV won't work on the train. Keyboards are cheap but I'd probably forget to take it with me to the Library.

Don't forget the 10% code CLEARANCE10
