Nice deal. It has 4GB of RAM soldered onto the motherboard and an empty slot to add up to another 16GB of RAM so you could make it 20GB in total. SSD can be upgraded as well.

This is a very good price and decent specs. Now it depends what you want for your daughter. If you want a big screen, this is ok. If you want it a bit more portable, the Medion deal from Aldi at £380 is good too. If I was to get one for my son, I would have preferred the one from Aldi, as it comes with 3 year warranty and it has more memory. However, this one is good as well, even it has only 4GB RAM, I think it is upgradable, so in long term this may be a better investment IF you upgrade the RAM. If RAM can't be upgraded, that's a different story. The CPU is better too but that may not be a big deal considering your daughter's age.

This is by far the best laptop for that budget, I'd say go for this one before it sells out.

I dont think this has only 6 months warranty, can't see why it should not have at least 1 year warranty. Also, looking at the description, I can see 6 months but also 12 months.
A bit surprised to see the 4000 series on 4gb ram only, if the RAM is upgradeable, this could be a very good deal.

I'm half tempted to suggest a ThinkPad from itzoo.co.uk as they are more durable and have spill resistant keyboards. A friend's daughter has ruined two laptops already, once with a drink over the keyboard.

itzoo.co.uk/col…-10

Not sure how the GFX on this would suit minecraft

Slightly old Lenovo ThinkPad (2nd hand), they are really sturdy machines.

It's one good option. Same with dell, slightly older models...
Brand new = better specs , more price.

But since you want simple machine that's robust you might wanna not spend too much on a 'glitter product". Choice is yours ofcourse

Yes, I wanted to mention that deal, which was very good, but now the price is up. Both, this and the Aldi one are better priced and both are decent. At approx £350 there are not many options, but considering your daughter's age, I think your budget is ok. Unfortunately I am not into gaming, and while I believe Minecraft is not necesarily a high demanding game, I can't say which of the 2 laptops I mentioned is better for Minecraft.
The 256gb vs 128gb should not be a big deal, you can get a small memory stick for £10-20 and you increase the storage.

Looking at that, it looks like it has the space for a 2.5" but no bracket or cable. So that leaves replacing the m.2 drive with a nother larger for expansion - I wonder if it's m.2 sata or nvme or compatible with both?

Yeah, wait for something better, 8GB RAM and a better IPS screen.
The screen is pants on this one.
From what I can find this has 4gb soldered AND has a an empty sodimm slot. It is the Ideapad 5 that cant be upgraded.

It has 4GB soldered and an empty slot which will take another 16GB of RAM, that would make 20GB in total. The PDF you linked to is for the incorrect model, that's an IdeaPad 5 on the PDF, this is an IdeaPad 3.
Thanks. Just what I was after for my daughter's birthday.

According to userbenchmark, the CPU in this is 78% faster than our current family laptop which, also with 4GB RAM, does everything we need. With the option to add another 4GB RAM for little money I'd say this should make a very good family laptop.

For £315 not really, especially if you just want it for office/school work or general usage it's a very decent spec for the money. If you really want an IPS panel buy one on eBay and install it, takes 15 minutes and sell the old one for not much less.

This laptop is actually a pretty good spec compared to what intel are offering at this price (performs the same as the i5-1035G1), however, if you're going to use it for a family computer you might wanna get something that has a better screen and is a bit more rugged.

Interesting idea regarding buying an IPS panel on ebay. I just had a look for my laptop (Lenovo Yoga 500) and a TN screen is roughly £50, or an IPS screen roughly £200. So a big price differential.
4300U is a ridiculous processor. 10x the benchmark of the silly Atom machines that get posted on here occasionally. Vega cores for 3D gaming at decent speeds even for the likes of Fortnite if you’re happy with med/low settings and shadows off.

Does anyone know if there is a ram or m2 slot... I’m expecting not but if you could chuck an extra 4gb plus a second SSD in this you’d be laughing!

The cpu is good enough however, i think it'd be worth upgrading the ram to at least 8gb or instead, looking for a laptop that has a similar processor and 8gb of ram from the get go.
