Sorry - you're talking rubbish. Processor absolutely fine for basic tasks. i3 a poor processor? Heck, even handles basic video editing fine. I've had this a year, with no problems at all. Horses for course, depends what you class as a basic task.

got one of these a while back, nice laptop. The hdd is terrible though. Chucked an old ssd into it eventually and brought it to life. Must be the worst mechanical hdd I've ever used, it was painfully slow. But everything else about it is decent. Well except the touchpad and buttons, those are kinda annoying. A mouse and an ssd and it's a stellar budget laptop that looks a lot nicer than most cheapos.

As you say, throw a nice ssd and more memory at this, and it'll be great

not good to buy any pc/laptops without SSD..apart from that 3years back same configuration I purchased for 240.today also asking same prices for these crap. Not only this many laptops I seen in bf deals. Waste configuration and asking sky prices

Processsor benchmark is 3136 - more than enough for home internet/office use.

I bought a Lenovo last year but returned it as the battery performance was woeful. I should add it wasn't this model but an 17 version

cpu hasn't been an issue. I did also add 4gb ram just noticed. I guess once you've made those upgrades you might as well have bought a more expensive laptop with them already added. But FHD at this price point on something vaguely attractive is hard to find.

Really? Even basic task, I don't know what you think a basic task is! Everyone has a lot to say about laptops on here it really depends on what you want it for. Voted hot for price and fact most people would be happy with the performance.

Agree ...some educated response is useful like many previous pointers
seems good at this price

This is better than lenovo z50-70 i3 FHD screen 15"6 ???
I have an ssd for this 310 if is better

Be very careful buying this. We bought one from John Lewis with 3 year warranty last black Friday.
A month ago one of the hinges went. John Lewis sent it to Lenovo to be fixed and they are claiming it is accidental damage (definitely not, definitely a design flaw) and want £60 to fix it.
This is a good price though.

I definitely won't let this happen if I'm buying it off Amazon and I have issues. Lenovo can stick their 'accidental damage' claim in the air.

Its got 220 heat. But mixed reviews in the comments here?

My wife has this exact spec on her laptop and it’s crap. Even basic tasks like opening word etc are ridiculously slow. I guess it depends what you’re used to and budget. I’m not saying it’s a bad deal, it’s very cheap. But for a reason. If you’re happy to compromise then I’m sure it’s fine. If not I’d say spend more.

I use many laptops on a daily basis, to be fiar never used this one before but there has not been many I have used that struggle opening word, unless not being looked after correctly such as users that have no idea how to use or look after a device, just to be clear I am not suggesting you are one of these type of users.

If the laptop struggles to open word and the laptop has been looked after and kept upto date I would back up and do a fresh install or a general clean up of the machine, this shouldn't really struggle to open word.

that could be cause it has a mechanical hard drive stick a ssd in it and then see how it goes, also all laptops come loaded with gumph that you need to debloat as it will all be loading in the back ground slowing down the laptop at startup, get rid of most of that and your laptop is raring to go

still at £280 with a 1920x1080p full hd screen and a 6th gen i3 processor it wont be as good as a top of the range laptop but some good value for money here for sure

I do agree and we know the basics of keeping a laptop in good order. It’s been like it since new and been back to be checked and we’ve been told it’s performing as it should. The good news is we got a dell bf offer yesterday

Is the keyboard layout different? I've read that the shift key is in an odd place?

opening word on an i3 is slow? I've got an i3 from about 7 years ago still running the basic task of Microsoft Word pretty fast. I have to disagree with this totally.

I've read some bizarre comments on some of the deals on here, and I agree that the one you've quoted is either hyperbolic, fictitious, or just a big old 'user-error'.

My old laptop (which I had for 5 years prior to my recent Lenovo) was a HP G6-1311SA. It had an AMD A4-3305M, 6GB DDR3, 500GB HDD and a 1366 x 768 resolution.

Based on the comments I've seen on these deals this weekend, it appears I was lucky that it even got past the 'loading windows' screen

good for you

it will be more than enough for most, my netbooks and laptops are far lower spec, but they are perfectly usable. This would seem like a massive upgrade to me, even if it does have a mechanical hdd (which gives you a terrabyte to fill with stuff from jack sparrows bay). It has a DVD writer according to john lewis, and that is rare on budget laptops. The processor is decent, the ram is ddr 4, the intel graphics will play some fairly modern games, the screen and speakers should be quite nice too. Cant complain with a 2 year guarantee from JL. Remember the prices of crap laptops back in the 90's and early 2000's?.

Is it normal to transfer RAM from acer 5830t timeline x laptop to dell latitude 630d?

The one you've linked to is in Argos - it's hard to say specifics as they are quite secretive about the exact specification of the budget laptops they sell, but it has an inferior screen/resolution, and a much lower quality webcam (VGA).

The'res potential for the processor to be lesser and/or the RAM to be perhaps DDR3 instead of the DDR4 in this, but I can't tell for sure without knowing the specifics.

I would 100% put it behind the Acer Aspire E5-475 that is on eBuyer for £299, as it knocks spots off it. The same Acer I only ranked behind this deal due to the screen, webcam and design that this 310 has. Just my 2p's worth, though.

They both quote as being model number '80SM01MAUK', and everything looks like it is, yes.

The only difference is that the ao.com one could be combined with 5% cashback (not sure if there are similar benefits to the amazon purchase), and the amazon listing looks like it might include an optical drive and software that wasn't clearly mentioned on the ao.com purchase.

In short, it looks like they are the same, but you might get more for your money with the Amazon purchase, just without the 5% from topcashback

Basically:

Acer @ Argos hotukdeals.com/dea…607
Acer @ eBuyer hotukdeals.com/dea…762
This Lenovo

Before we get into this, note that the Argos listing (see their Q&A) is all over the place - they don't seem to have a clue what they are selling, so it's hard to really know how accurate their listing is

However, the description of an 'i3 dual core' paired with 'HD520' graphics would suggest that it is an i3-6006u, making it the same as the other two.

Processor: As above, all appear to have the same i3-6006u. The benchmark is around 3100, which is one of the highest benchmarks I've seen for a processor in this price range.

Screen: The Argos Acer and the Lenovo 310 both have 15.6" screens. The eBuyer Acer has a smaller 14" screen.

Resolution: Both Acers have a screen resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, whereas the Lenovo is listed as a full-HD 1920x1080 pixels.

Memory: Both the Argos Acer and the Lenovo are listed as 4GB RAM, whereas the eBuyer Acer apparently has 8GB DDR4 ram. The Argos Acer doesn't specify any details about the ram, but the Lenovo is DDR4. Memory is one of the easiest upgrades for a laptop, and can be added later.

Storage: All three specify a non-descript 1TB (1000GB) Hard Disk Drive. This is another area that can be upgraded/swapped for an SSD drive, should it be a big issue.

Battery: The Lenovo states up to 4 hours, the Argos Acer upto 6.5, and the eBuyer Acer upto 8 hours. I would imagine that the difference in screens may be the biggest player in here.

I chose this Lenovo because it has more going for it that you can't swap out later (screen & resolution). I don't really care too much about battery life, but it would be a consideration for those who rely on it a bit more.

There's also this HP 250 G6 offer that has appeared today for a bit more budget, but it comes with a processor that has around 60% of the benchmark on the processor (1942, compared to the ~3100 on the i3), but comes with an SSD and still has a full HD Screen. It could be argued, however, that the ~£50 difference in price (with cashback) could go towards upgrading the Lenovo to an SSD, at which point you'd still have a better processor, whilst then potentially being able to have an SSD plus an extra 1TB in secondary storage (assuming you used an optical drive caddy to run the 1TB HDD, and ran the OS on an SSD).

I echo that sentiment and think I'll wait until tomorrow to see if anything better comes up.. If not I'll go for this for reasons you stated and return other to argos.. If you see anything better chuffedfox can you try remember us if you have a spare min.. In my case the vast majority of money is my daughters hard saved cash and I'm charged with finding her the best laptop I can.. And am adding a wee bit more to it so she can have Xmas day rather than Jan sales. She's asked for 3 wee things for Xmas to get cash towards this so hoping to make her Xmas with a big surprise

There's probably no harm in waiting - I pulled the trigger because I'd been watching the £299 Acer all the way up to black friday, but I was up at 5am on black friday (been in hospital) and saw the deal went back up to £429. It did, later that morning, go back to the sale price, but it just made me nervous to get a deal in the basket whilst they were still available (even if I went for a different deal).

I'm looking out for any signs of cheap RAM or an SSD that I might be tempted to purchase to upgrade the laptop across 'cyber monday', as I expect there' going to be a few more deals on the go - and I'm sure that will include some laptop offers

Laptop arrived this morning! There is an extra RAM slot at the bottom so it's easy enough to upgrade. Is there any decent DDR4 RAM deal available?
