I suspect that the screen will be poor on this. Would doubt the battery claims also.
No ssd so not worth it
I rather have 128 GB SSD than 1 TB HDD, but this is me and does not make this deal bad.
Anyone know if the HDD can be upgraded to an SSD? If so, is it a simple swap or is there metal plates etc that need to be removed first?

I have upgraded my HDD to an SSD and so far no issues plus my laptop is more than 5 years old. Look on youtube on how easy is it to access the HDD for this laptop.
Change to SSD and im sure your warranty will be worthless.
Is this any good for gaming? I'm looking for a laptop for a 12 year old wanting to play Minecraft
The display is poor on this model, and at this price should be full HD.

Yes, Minecraft isn't that demanding.
But it's better to wait for a deal on the Acer Aspire 5 with the new Ryzen 5 3500u CPU. The Acer is more updated, will handle more demanding games in the future.

yep poor screen, the 330s 15" i3 version has full FD and is cheaper than this.

Better than this one? box.co.uk/Ace…tml I'm not being funny, I am really interested. I need to get a laptop for my son to take to school. I want something quick, quiet, strong but light weight, 7 hours plus battery life with a decent keyboard and full HD screen but don't want to spend a fortune. We started looking at low end (£2-300) but I'm not sure they're going to cut it - top end budget is now £500 . He's also wants a gaming laptop so the more we spend on school, means less budget for gaming (gaming laptop too heavy to carry to school every day and too tempting in class!) Any (helpful) input welcomed.
Gaming laptops are expensive. Why not go for a desktop instead?

Sadly he has nowhere in his room to put one, a laptop takes up less room and can be brought downstairs or taken to a friends house etc. Plus, his sister has one

The 530s was Lenovo's mid range premium line, replaced by the S540 range.
It is a beautiful looking laptop, discounted from £700 It has a full Aluminium casing, an excellent IPS glass display, backlit keyboard.

The Acer extensa is more of a business laptop with plastic built or maybe part metal. The display is only a TN. The processor is slightly faster but hardly noticeable. The storage is generous though.

Another option, would be the Acer Aspire 5 with the newer Ryzen 3500U processor. Also has an IPS screen.
It is the cheapest way to play games with good Frame rates and details. It is £500 at Currys, it was £430 before at AO ebay. hotukdeals.com/dea…376

Thanks win26, I'm edging towards the Acer, mainly because of the dual RAM slots. My limited, recently gained knowledge suggests dual RAM can handle gaming better? (the video you posted says they are running 16GB where the one in Currys is only 8). I think I'll keep my eye open for another deal like the AO one, maybe Black Friday/Cyber Monday (fingers crossed) I could use the money saved to buy a stick of RAM

Google the model name + teardown, you should be able to get a video or ifixit guide
