This one or the Acer for £399 the other day. All the key specs in a nice looking chassis.

Exactly. And the Ryzen has usable Vega 8 integrated graphics for light gaming too so if I wanted to do that, the Ryzen 5 is a no brainer.

You'll face a tough task to find a better Intel powered machine for this price. This is as good as I have seen for sub £350 this year.

It's the older Ryzen 2500U which is not quite as fast as an Intel i5 8250U but the graphics performance is vastly superior, which makes up for it. Enough RAM (I think it is dual channel- bonus) decent size SSD (I think it is M2 leaving a 2.5 bay free for extra storage), and IPS screen albeit on the very low end. Still pushes it ahead of the typical TN alternatives for this money.

You could wait til black friday but as of right now it looks a tidy machine for this money, with the expected compromises for the budget price.
This is a good price for what is being offered? Are black friday prices expected be better than this? Should one go for this or wait for black friday?
searched far and wide to see if this has ethernet or not and this spec sheet says it does: google.com/url…Jpx

however no mention of ethernet and I cannot see a port on the pictures, anyone have it? thanks

EDIT: 90% sure it has no ethernet

It doesn’t, the USB to Ethernet adapters are cheap though

It's all depends on your requirements. For browsing, office work, this is a solid buy.
It's more of a home plugged in laptop, because of the 2 cell battery and the quick charger is not included.
Got one of these from the Argos deal a while back. Really nice spec for the price but, sadly, I had to return mine after a month because it died (refused to boot up). Worthy of note as well that I attempted to upgrade the RAM using a compatible Crucial 16GB SODIMM and the laptop would refuse to warm boot (and lock up requiring a hard power reset) but would cold boot fine and work normally afterwards. I tried two different (new!) RAM sticks to check the first wasn't faulty but it was obviously a laptop issue. I went back to using it with the stock RAM up until it broke a week or so later. I might have been unlucky with a duffer (and that would explain the RAM upgrade issues) but I was genuinely sad to see it go because it was a nice machine - keyboard, trackpad, screen and general spec was really good. AMD chipset was great too.
Edit: WiFi was limited to 50Mbps (for some reason) but could have been another issue with my particular dodgy machine.

No need to beat yourself up.
I believe OPs should be more aware and insert IPS in the title where appropriate. Would attract more heat.
I have an HP i5-8265U 15.6 FHD TN bought as a replacement for an old desktop; I hdmi the HP to a big desktop monitor.
I hate the HP TN screen so it's off 99% of the time.
It's crap compared to the IPS screen on my lovely, so portable Huawei D14.
When you have a spare 1/2 day & you're bored to death, Google SVA v TN v IPS blah technobabble blah,,,

Confused... Hmmmm
Ours is a Mars & Venus relationship, so this may not work for you.
I do two things:
List of MUST haves. e.g. Budget £££, i5-Gen 8 Intel or similar CPU power, IPS screen; SSD; 8GB RAM: SSD size.
List of desirables: USB3, Ethernet Port, Back lit Keyboard; Graphics....
Prioritise them in case you have to choose, for example between Ethernet Port & No Internet Port
Matrix the list using Excel Spreadsheet or a Word Table to make 2 or more side by side Laptop comparisons.
Must haves & desirables left side top to bottom Column 1.
Laptops Left to Right Across the Top Row 1.

Your this or this are basically very similar:
ao.com have the Lenovo available on their main website with more technical detail.
Leno has more up to date USB + USBC but no RJ45 Ethernet.
But you can get a USB>RJ45 gizmo for that if wired LAN connection is important to you.
OR you might think, I don't want to have to carry about another gizmo....
This is where you go nuts looking at your matrix and trying to decide.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have not considered looks, body material, bezels, keyboard layouts.etc..but here is a starter comparison, not matrixed though.

£399 Acer:15.6 FHD IPS:8GB RAM:Ryzen 5 3500U:AMDRV8:256SSD:1.8Kg

I gave up on photo editing long ago; unable to figure the practical application to my photo of the zillion tools and menu item tweaks that were available. I had a free one years ago that had a one button fix. Did a wonderful job removing sunshine glare from a photo of a pack of hounds. But I was totally intimidated by a full function editor.
So no advice on that.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If I had to choose, I'd prefer the Leno from ao.com main website.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Also wondering about game performance. I assume this is good enough for Roblox/Minecraft etc?
Looks a decent spec for the money. Anyone know if I could fit my existing 1Tb hdd into this as additional storage?

There is a very similar model in 14" that I purchased the other day, unfortunately the deal is no longer running though!

Here is mine: currys.co.uk/gbu…tml

I was able to get cashback and saved another 8% from a scheme where I work (rewardsgateway) so ended up getting it for £363 equivalent.

Definitely good enough for Minecraft, my laptop has the same processor and RAM and I am able to run it on the highest settings. However, it does struggle a tiny bit if you use shaders. Amazing for the price though.

They had it reduced to £499 with another voucher code to take £50 off, so it would've been £449 without my cashback or rewards gateway. Very happy with it so far! I would definitely recommend it if you could get it for £450 or less.

You got a bargain for a convertible machine with that spec! I think this laptop with its APU will be fine for Fortnite, Overwatch and other low-spec eSports titles (DOTA2, CS:GO, etc.) - it’s a really impressive chip (Ryzen 5/7) and allowed for some great hardware at decent prices.

Thanks, that's good to know. If it comes back to £449 I could certainly be tempted, especially as AO eBay won't deliver this one to Northern Ireland.
