You could buy a brand new Car or 15 second hand ones for the same cost as the new one...whats your point?

Nonsense, this is listed as a "Gaming Laptop" yet has an old low end graphics card.

You don't need to spend way more money for a laptop with an SSD and Geforce 1050 - we are talking about £100 which is about 15% more which in the long run is worth it for gaming IMO.

I was pointing this out as I was trying to be helpful and didn't want someone to buy this on the merit that it's a gaming laptop then get 20fps average on PUBG and wish they spend a bit more.

I still gave it hot btw as it's a fast processor and a good price so for other uses its good value - just not gaming as per the title.

The i5 model does have a SSD drive, not a bad deal if you into light gaming and do not mind the screen.

How good are box.co.uk as a company, whats their return policies like and customer service?

The title says gaming laptop yet doesn't list the GPU which might be worth amending?

A 950m is a few years old now and not great for games. You should look.for a 1050 minimum - preferably a 1060 if gaming is your focus here.

However if you want a general purpose laptop that can play the odd game at medium settings then this is an okay deal.

Can you run Microsoft office on console now?

Anyone know the how many RAM slots this has, and the max RAM it can be upgraded to?

Can you play games on an xbox one or PS4 while the kids are watching TV at the same time?
Which is easier to play games on when working away and staying in the hotel room: a laptop or a console?

Think before posting stupid statements next time!

Doubt you will get one at this price.

My point was that if you are after a gaming laptop then I would save up and spend a little (£100) more or you will be disappointed.

For example, on FHD medium graphics expect about 20-30fps average on games like PUBG, XCOM 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Witcher 3...

Its a well specified general purpose laptop - hard pushed to call it a gaming laptop but it is fine for most purposes and the graphics card is good enough for most things on this laptop - at 1080 setting.

Not sure of benchmarks but I'd assume a 950 4gb could run most games at 1080p at medium settings with 30fps. Should be fine for anyone who's on a budget

Can you point me toward one with am i7, 1050 and SSD for £750 as I am genuinly interested in getting a laptop as such.

Can't see any with an i7, mostly quad core i5s which is perfectly balanced for a 1050.

Although on userbenchmark.com the 7300 comes 134/979 where as the 6700 comes 152/179 so it should be better than this.

MSI with i5 7300HQ from Amazon - amzn.eu/0ly…OP2 £749.97

HP from i5 7300HQ from Curry's - currys.co.uk/gbu…tml £748.97

HP with i7 7700HQ from Curry's - currys.co.uk/gbu…tml £798.97

Probably more if you have time to look around.

I think he was being a touch on the optimistic side - but you can get pretty close at PC speciallist.

just specced a 17” optimus viii on pcspeciallist:

i7-7700hq
128gb ssd
only 4Gb ram but u can get extra memory cheaper elsewhere than speccing it on the site
geforce 1050ti graphics (or 1050 is cheaper)

coming at £780

950M. Don't think so.

FWIW, I use a Lenovo 'gaming' laptop. The components all make up for a gaming machine but the way Lenovo put their laptops together means the laptops overheat within minutes. It's not really suitable for games.

Gaming laptop
950M

Pick one.

I've had 'issues' with HP Laptops in the past, so I would personally avoid, unfortunately ...

I've seen a few MSI Laptops randomly about on HUKD over the last year or two too, lol.

I'm intrigued, is MSI any good? (or is it cheap junk that's fit for nothing, etc?).

I'm genuinely intrigued, as I wouldn't mind trying the MSI Brand out as well (IF they are any good that is?).

Thanx in advance for any future input. :-)

Guess I have been lucky as I haven't had any issues with HP laptops or computers in the past.

I haven't personally tried MSI for laptops (although I have been buying their motherboards for years) but any family/friends with them have had no issues.

Only laptop I have had break on me (touch wood) was a Sony but they fixed it within the warranty without any issues.

A slight exaggeration. it will play many games at medium detail at 30fps - not what you would call a gaming laptop though.

I have a 940m and xcom 2 and GTA V run fine. 720p might be better than 1080p to be fair, but these are some benchmarks

£900 is actually not a bad price for a 17 inch screen which seems to go for huge premiums nowadays, probably due to the reduced popularity.

Where do you get the cashback? Might be tempted myself.

You can also get an HP Omen for £900 with the 4GB version of the 1050 box.co.uk/1GP…tml
