Just be wary of their next day delivery. Is £20 and a week later I'm still waiting. I've had the £20 refunded and only today have the courier received the laptop from them to deliver to me.
The Ryzen 3700Us often throttle and are not much faster than the 3500U, just slightly faster graphics.

If you're not in a rush Ryzen 4000 might be worth waiting for.
Is this deal better than the Huawei one posted earlier?

No, the Lenovo's screen is TN, not as good.
Huawei has Aluminium casing and IPS screen, excellent cooling but non upgradable RAM and a smaller battery.

Keep that grand in your pocket and build a pc. You'll get way way more for your money
Have a pc. Need a laptop bud. Hit me up
Is the RAM soldered? Would upgrading to 1 16GB DDR4 2400 improve this by much?

For personal/hobby machine learning (CNN's) is this an okay purchase? Especially since the graphics card is integrated?

Most bang for your buck is probably a Lenovo L340. Play around with the spec options on the Lenovo UK website and then sign up for the newsletter for a 10% off code (bottom left hand corner). There are 15" and 17" (TN or IPS) versions pre-configured and custom.

If you're a student (or can access an .ac.uk email address) then they also have a student website with different offers.

3% Quidco cashback and £50 off ideapads over £500 code - IDEAD50

I think you can only use one code so the newsletter will probably save you more.

Edit: The 17" version customised with i7, 16GB, 512GB SSD, GTX1650 Max Q is the best option at only around £700 with newsletter.

Cheers, will have a play around with config now
What's the difference between the s340 and the S540?

I’m not really fussed about the aesthetics of the machine, and although the Matebook might have a better screen, I’ve read reviews saying that the colour range is really washed out.

There’re so many options out there at the moment, I’m ridiculously spoilt for choice. I just don’t know which machine to plump for!
I'm looking to replace an older Lenovo that's grinding to a halt, I use it pretty much for photoshop and lightroom but only on a casual basis. Is this spec adequate do you think?

Yea, you're not going to get amazing screen quality in this price range. It's perfectly useable for most.
Here is review which you may have seen.

It's best to use a good external IPS monitor if you can. The TN screen on this is not ideal for editing photos
