Not much use if it's not a touchscreen?

I just don't understand why they said HD display and after Full HD display. I saw this thing to similar laptops. A bit confusing
Worth noting that this is running Windows 10 S. In case anyone isn't sure, this basically means you're limited to only installing apps from the Microsoft Store, using the default installed apps, and Microsoft Edge. This is fine for anyone with very basic usage of a machine, but I find the offerings in the Microsoft Store pretty lacking and full of shovelware. Great if you only need a machine for web browsing, office and so on, but if you may ever need an extra software package this will be very restricted.

I know there was talk of changing these to run Windows 10 Home/Pro but in 'S Mode', which could be reverted. I'm not sure if this machine would be like that (reverting is a one way migration, effectively 'unlocking' it to be able to install anything), or whether it only affects newer machines with it installed.

You can fix this in a few minutes by turning S Mode off which is what I imagine most people will do as the MS App Store is sadly a waste of time.

Good machine for anyone considering this but AMD severely handicapped the Ryzen 3 over the 5 so if you can spend the little extra for the 5 it’ll be worth it in the long run.
Lenovo really good at crippling performance for few pennies. So they make sure to build this with single ram slot and no additional slot to make it dual channel by user.

Crappy single heatpipe heatsink which cant keep up with even minimal load. So CPU will throttle.

Single channel wifi antenna. You cant get full performance even if user upgrade the wifi card.

Most likely dull full hd display (even their IPS panels are crappy compared to competitors)

In the end user will blame AMD for crappy performance.

Anyway NOT VOTED!!!

I mentioned these things before about some of the Lenovo laptops that are cheap. They are often emerging market machines which then have better CPUs dropped in for the UK/EU markets.

They know people will read the CPU, buy it and never check anything else.

Unlucky if you buy one thinking its anything more then then a cheap Celeron end of the market machine with a different CPU in it.

You sound pretty clued up!
Any suggestions on a cheap laptop with an ssd to solely run an old Champman game and maybe to store pics etc?
Your knowledge and experience would be crucially anticipated.
Regards

Hey what's your maximum budget? Based on that we can look for something.

Thanks for the response.
Around 250, cheaper the better. But as I said, its literally to play an old version of Champman (01/02) and maybe store some pics.
I'd prefer an ssd and windows 7/8/xp as the game struggles with w10.
I've been looking at some refurbs on Ebay, mainly a Lenovo thinkpad and a hp 820. Both are i5, 4gb and 128ssd. Around £150.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Look around Dell outlet (comes with 12month warranty) Good chance you can find something around your budget. I have no idea about Champman but itll be really hard to find anything with Win 7 these days. Win 7 and XP reached their End of life and M$ no longer support the OS. So essentially make them security risk.

Look for outlet coupons as well. Dell always issue 10-15% off coupons for outlet store.

Usually items marked as scratch and dent only got 2-3mm scratch or two. But they are slightly cheaper than others.
