I've been looking around for a new 17" laptop for few months and I think this looks really good. Looks like £30 TCB as well.

It's a couple of years old now but the graphics card is an 8gb beast.

Operating system Windows 10 (64-bit)

Processor- Intel® Core™ i7-6820HK
- Quad-core
- 2.7 GHz / 3.6 GHz (Turbo Boost)

RAM 16 GB DDR4
Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M (8 GB GDDR5)

Storage
1 TB HDD, 5400 rpm
- 256 GB SSD

Screen size 17.3" 1920 x 1080

Do you not think?
I've been looking for a 17", I7 processor with a good amount of RAM and a graphics card better than a 1050 preferably with 6gb+ of its own RAM.

I really can't find anything better for the price.
Smokingggg
So how would this compare to a 1060 toting laptop with similar specs??

As far as I can tell, a 980 and a 1060 are very similar.

gpu.userbenchmark.com/Com…746

However, I haven't seen any laptops with a 1060 with 8gb (only 3 or 6) and most of them are more expensive than this. 17" laptops around the £1000 mark seem to have either a 1050 or 1050ti with a maximum of 4gb RAM.

CPU and GPU is a bit slower. Probably a better build than the i7/1060 laptops around.

Not cheap enough to buy over the the i7/1060 laptops IMO.
If anyone can find a better 17" laptop for around the same price, I would appreciate it
This seems quite good, right?

Not sure why it's cold. Maybe screen too big for people? CPU and Graphics are good value.
I was a bit surprised how cold it got, I know it's not for everyone but if you want a 17" screen I genuinely can't find anything better and over the last few months I've been regularly checking everywhere I can think of.
I am into 17 inch laptops but I dont know why its cold. I can only think its a 2 year old laptop and the GPU benchmark from 980 to 1080 is quite a margin. Uusually it is just a small fraction of increase of gpu performance

There is a big leap to 1080...but a massive price difference too. I would say this beats a 1060 6gb for performance and is cheaper, around the price of a rig with a 1050ti 4gb
Remember it' a 980m which is around 35% less powerful than 980 desktop. Whereas the 1060 in a laptop now is just as powerful as desktop equivlent (maybe few percent less) . 1060 graphics card wipes the floor with 980m. Got to compare gpu boss

Depends on the GB surely. But still, please help me by finding a £1000 17" laptop with a 1060
This Was posted yesterday. Though not an i7 7700HQ it is a 17" with a 1060 and also includes a VR headset. I've seen in the comments if you don't want the headset you can return it and the overall cost will be about £724. (You will be refunded £275 for the headset if you request a return of the headset)

That's cool, shame it's an i5. How do you return the headset?
Found the deal, thanks KinPiz. Going to read up on the specs

As I said they happens now and again, one was posted yesterday, another was a few weeks a go. If you can’t be patient and you want to overpay on a 980m then that’s your choice.

Yeah, that's fair enough. I was aware of the John Lewis one as I have been looking for nearly 6 months since my old one died. I missed the John Lewis one as was sold out by the time I saw it and haven't seen anything as good as this since. The one from yesterday is an i5, it's good but feels like a downgrade from my old i7

Sure it only has 8gb ram, but it's a lot better than the laptop you've posted.

£129 over budget (has 16gb ram over the first one though), but again, much better than the laptop you've posted

Well, I'd wait anyway, laptop prices are diving atm for the new releases, a month or so and they'll be way cheaper.
Can I ask what you are planning on using this laptop for?

Mainly posting cold deals on here...
I don't think it's that bad a deal imho

The 980m is still a decent GPU and you'll struggle to find a 1060 laptop with 16gb of RAM and a 256gb SSD for under a grand

Apart from that. Cad? Gaming? Video editing?
YouTube?

I use it for everything, but gaming is the main reason for wanting these particular specs

I've been looking at these two and am puzzling over the best option. I'm looking at a 17" preferably, so an ASUS GL7xx model is the current prime option - it's exactly the same spec as that Cyberpower.

The quandary is whether the Cyberpower is a better option in terms of cooling and possibly longevity. The ASUS also has a terrific screen and I just don't know about the Cyberpower. I know it's IPS but I can't find out anything really about how that translates into real world experience.

Well, my only advice to you is, if you buy, buy direct from Amazon due to their return policy & warranty. Secondly, do you NEED a laptop? As in, would a pc not suit your needs? You get a lot more for your money if it's for probability I understand just curious

Yes, I understand there are many advantages having a desktop of some description rather than a laptop but for me there are some space issues and I quite like the portability. That said, if I could find something small and powerful, with the number of ports these laptops have I could opt for that as I already have two other laptops. However, they are both a bit old and in no way capable of gaming but they are well adequate for all my general needs.

Some kind of midi is an option but it would have to be small and whilst I have largely kept abreast with laptops, I haven't had a desktop for over a decade and have no idea what's available, what is good and where to get it - although Amazon service is indeed good, as you say.

Well, there are some really nice, small desktop cases which you can fit a very powerful rig into
