Nope keep on posting, Someone might not have seen it before.
Not bad for the price, but Screen Resolution 1366 x 768
Is this a good spec for a laptop also will this play some older titles like the command and conquer series
Will screen resolution matter with this size laptop
Depends what you’re used to. It’s a 14inch screen so if you compare it to an 1920x1080 IPS on a 14inch screen I’d definitely notice a difference, although I’ve had laser eye surgery

Not my experience.
Once I broke through the first line customer support wall, they couldn't do enough to put the matter right.

Initially bought a £1200 ThinkPad which had some chassis problems.
After 3 attempts to put right (most users wouldn't have detected or would have accepted the fixes), I insisted it be escalated. This was all covered by the 3 year on-site warranty you can get with ThinkPads.
Service manager contacted me and offered me brand new X1 Yoga with better specs, newer CPU, increased RAM from 8 to 16GB, doubled the SSD capacity, threw in all relevant accessories to match the newer OneLink + port, all for not a single penny.
At the time the machine they allowed me to choose from, cost almost £3000.
If that's not service, I don't know what is.

As with most things, if you know how to convey your complaint firmly but politely, you usually get a positive outcome. As long as you've purchased from an authorised dealer, they tend to want the best outcome for you.

I think you're one of the fortunate ones. Again you me tined you had to escalate it after 3 attempts. You don't find that strange? Their forums are littered with people who have issues with their after sales support. Also look at Trust pilot reviews. Some shocking service.

I had to return mine after dealing with at least 15 different people from their call centre. Once waiting 35 mins on hold to speak to a manager only to be told there wasnt one there. Even social media head contacted me had no answer for all the appalling service.

The 3 attempts, were three separate engineer visits to my home address, replacing different components at each stage as part of the fault diagnosis. The fault was something most would not even pick up.
Imagine if I didn't have the on-site warranty and had to send it in to their support centre? Nightmare!

Customer Support call centres are an unfortunate hoop/barrier that needs jumping through.
It's the same at work, only those with partial knowledge or minimal keenness to excel stay at that level of the fault diagnosis process to engage with customers. (You know what it's like when calling a broadband company or a technical hotline, those picking up the phones are only there to funnel in the complaints into the corporate problem logging process and demo to their boss that they respond within the target times set within the SLA).

The forums, and let's face it, forums tend to be there as a corporate buffer, inhabited by people making a complaint of some sort, are a frustrating hoop you have to jump through, but there are other brands out there that don't even implement that.

I escalated because I had let their process run, it failed so I had ammunition to say, "oi! This isn't a good experience... I didn't buy an expensive ThinkPad to have a subpar experience. I thought you claimed to do military tests on endurance blah blah blah".
They couldn't argue against the logic so hence progress was made.

Social media head honcho you mentioned in your case, did you request some sort of drastic action (*cough* compensation) be taken to address the inconvenience?

I went down the route of saying I bought a laptop aimed at the corporate client and that their lack of robust quality control cost me in loss of earnings and embarrassment in front of clients.

It's a battle whatever brand you're talking about. Read some of the horror stories re Apple and their slapdash top dollar AppleCare, far too often to be considered isolated incidents. As long as you come across as a knowledgeable consumer that's reasonable, you're going to get a result that is positive.

Having said all of the above, I would definitely buy a Lenovo ThinkPad when I next need a hardware refresh. It's a brand ethos that I trust.

I understand exactly what you had to go through. It took me almost 2 years to get BT to admit they offered subpar broadband service. Logging every action I took, every promise they broke, netted me a result of £1500 compensation, phone lines re-laid, some freebie merchandise. Ultimately, it all boils down to how much of a fight for your rights one is prepared to take. Most, and I'm not implying for second that includes you, fold at the first hurdle. Corporates know this and try to get away with soundbites.

Whilst your experience resulted in positive progress I can't help feeling there were so many hoops you had to go through. You had to say you were a corporate client to get issues resolved.

Us mere home users are left to their whim. Their forums have a unusually high rate of complainers which is telling of a company and highlighting similar issues. I hate to give people my business as it doesnt help others.

I returned the laptop and got my cash back . I didn't want to encounter any issues after my 30 days had expired.

As much as I hate Apple I have bought a macbook pro and their service is second to none to be honest and a complete contrast. Now I just need to adjust from using Windows. My wife's old macbook air has been faultless all these years and apple are quick to help out with any issues.

Fair enough.
So you've needed to use their service yet or talking just about the buying experience?

How much is it? I'd avoid lower range Asus, too many corners cutted. M409 is budget, TN panel, poor screen, plastic built.

The S540 is premium, all Aluminium encased, IPS display, backlit keyboard, finger print scanner.
