Looking for a tablet for my mum. Which one would you guys recommend under £150 and that has mobile data so she can use anytime and even abroad mainly for YouTube and Skype

A tablet with mobile data is going to cost more than £150. You're better off turning on mobile hotspot on your phone and connecting your tablet to your phone to get data. It's very easy and much cheaper.

Just bought this and so far so good

More for reading the news etc. Phone screens are too small for that

Unisoc so will be dreadfully slow after a months at best, will need to get another tablet within a year with those low end specs, spend extra to get something with better specs

It's not the manufacturer of the chip that determines performance, it's the ARM processors they use. Qualcom, mediatek, unisoc, apple etc all use ARM chips, like how Sony and Microsoft use AMD chips for there consoles. The ARM A75 + A55 are decent for day to day tasks and some moderate gaming.

Is this noticably better than the Lenovo M10 2nd Gen for £119.99 at Argos? Neither Argos nor Currys have this model in stock and no idea when they will get back in.
I will mainly be using for Netflix and occasional browsing and taking on holiday.

Struggling to find anything on this model as it keeps bring up either 2nd Gen or 3rd Gen Plus models. (edited)
    Avatar
Yes M10 2nd gen has crappy ARM A53 processors, avoid.

I got this from currys. It's OK for the price. small amount of backlight bleed and the screen has slow response so ghosts, out of the box the screen was incredibly cool but you can adjust colour temp in the settings.

One missing feature that is slightly crazy is you can't use live wallpapers. It seems other devices on the same SoC have the same problem, they omitted/disabled them.

It's relatively quick for a cheap tablet and you won't beat it for the price. M10 plus 3rd gen is supposed to have a better screen, bigger battery, fast charge etc.

Got this from Argos 24/12 for the same price.

Returned it a few days ago.

Wifi kept dropping the connection (it wasn't the wifi at fault)

It also felt really slow. (edited)

I had similar issues with network (can't connect) messages but eventually sorted itself over few days. The problem started after firmware update (Android 12 I am guessing?). The white screen of death still happens but not as frequently. I had to reset at least 3-4 times before I could go past the white screens.

Local Argos won't take it back. I explained its spurious software issue but they insisted that I demonstrate the fault before they could consider repair / replacement. After spending 15-2- minutes, the I could not reproduce the issue so had to take the tab back. Not too bad now considering the smart clock comes free with it (via separate claim).

I got this on the recent Curry's deal and it's been ok. It's just updated to Android 12 and that's made it quite unstable though, so hoping there's an update soon

Interesting, how unstable? sluggish/slow or usage bugs?

    Good tab for the money
    Ignore the haters.

Have a Lenovo tablet that is 5 years old, still going strong.
    Avatar
I have a 7 year old one I gave to my mum but some of the apps aren’t supported now, works well otherwise, maybe a bit slow.
  11. Avatar
The tablet is slow at first and appears to have problems with the wifi dropping out BUT after updating the firmware to Android 12 (it ships with android 11)all those issues disappeared.

I bought it for my mother in law and I have been testing it since the 28th of Dec. Still have to give it to her but I am enjoying it too much.My own tablet is an Ipad 8 and the ipad doesn’t have dual speakers with Atmos like this tablet has. (edited)

Yeah I've had mine a month. Immediately installed all the updates and it runs perfectly well. I love it

Does this have the same screen ratio as an iPad or is it more like a traditional Android tablet?
    Avatar
It's 1080p so aspect ratio is 16:9 as opposed to the iPad's 4:3 aspect.
  13. Avatar
Good for my child to watch YouTube videos! Need something with great battery life
  14. Avatar
Won't deliver keeps saying problem with my order .
  15. Avatar
Can I use a stylus for this ... my 10 year old wants a tab for drawing, designing etc and I can't afford an ipad for procreate or whatever its called
    Avatar
If you have a capacitive stylus. I use one with my Samsung tablet (not the one with a stylus). Works OK but hard to use as there's a tiny bit of delay
  16. Avatar
Will this be good enough to give the cat to play the mouse chase game? Or will she insist on 120hz?
  17. Avatar
    This is £235 now
    Avatar
    Wow, truly big jump.

Have the second Gen, it's been back twice for repair in 18 months as battery just stops working. Died again yesterday, will be getting a new one but Def not Lenovo..
